Three goals in extra time from League 1 Brentford finally condemned a much-changed City side to their first cup defeat of the season.

Featuring as many as nine changes from the side that started at Southend United at the weekend, City had looked on course at one point to book their place in round three when Alan Connell's penalty in the first period of extra time gave them the lead for the second time on the night.

But goals from Marcello Trotta - his second of the tie - and Clayton Donaldson before the interval in extra time and one from Harry Forrester straight after the break, however, decisively swung the game in the Bees' favour.

With several players rested, some playing slightly out of position and two apprentices in their starting eleven, City had done commendably to take their higher-ranked hosts past 90 minutes and into extra time.

Phil Parkinson's men originally took the lead of the tie in the first half through the returning Kyel Reid before Trotta levelled things up on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot.

The F.A Cup defeat, which saw debuts handed out to scholars Forrayah Bass and extra time substitute Nathan Curtis, amazingly is City's first in any cup competition since their F.A Cup loss at Watford back in early January.

FT: Brentford 4 Bradford City 2
119min: Forrester gets the better of a couple of City challenges before fizzing in a half-volley from just outside the area that McLaughlin gathers.

110min: Donaldson's rising drive from a tight angle inside the Bantams area is saved by McLaughlin.
106min: GOAL - Brentford 4 Bradford City 2 - The Bees put daylight between themselves and City right at the start of the second period of extra time when Forrester runs at Ritchie Jones before drilling a low strike from a tight angle past McLaughlin and into the far corner.

106min: SUB - City bring on apprentice striker Nathan Curtis for left back Forrayah Bass. City now look set to operate in a 3-4-3 formation.
HT of ET - Brentford 3 Bradford City 2

104min: GOAL - Brentford 3 Bradford City 2 - The Bees take the lead of the tie for the first time on the night when Donaldson finds just enough space inside City's area to beat McLaughlin at his near post with a low drive from a tight angle.
102min: GOAL - Brentford 2 Bradford City 2 - Brentford equalise once again through Trotta. Forrester's drive for goal flies into a crowded penalty area and Trotta is on hand to smash home the loose ball from around eight yards out.
99min: Trotta's ball across the area is met by Hayes but the striker's effort for goal doesn't appear to be struck cleanly and it goes a couple yards wide.

90min: There will be three minutes of time added on at the end of the game.
90min: Ravenhill picks up the ball and drives to the very edge of Brentford's penalty area before drilling a low drive narrowly past Gournet's far post.
83min: Ricky Ravenhill's fierce goal-bound volley from just outside the area is deflected behind after a half-cleared Brown corner had fallen into the midfielder's path.
80min: McLaughlin just gets his fingertips onto a stinging rising drive from Shaleum Logan to tip the fierce effort onto the crossbar. The right back was played into space around fourteen yards from goal by Donaldson but he couldn't get the better of McLaughlin despite the well-struck angled effort.
79min: Trugott's delivery from the wide free-kick that follows deflects into the path of Thompson but the attacker's looping effort from just inside the area sails over the bar.
79min: YELLOW CARD - Bidwell is cautioned after bringing down Turgott as the winger looked to burst clear down City's right wing.
78min: SUB - Dallas is taken off by Brentford and replaced by Bradford-born Bees striker Clayton Donaldson.
75min: Baker's shot on the turn after picking up a loose ball just inside Brentford's area is competently gathered by Gournet.
71min: SUB - The corner delivery would prove to be Saunders' last of the night as he is now replaced by Harry Forrester.
70min: Hayes glances a header a good few yards wide of goal following Saunders' corner into the area.
68min: Blair Turgott strikes from distance but the drive goes wide of Gournet's near post.
68min: A Brentford free-kick makes it all the way through to Hayes, who is lurking at the other end of the penalty area past the far post. The striker's cushioned volley from a tight angle beats the dive of McLaughlin but McHugh is waiting in the middle to clear with a diving header.
67min: SUB - Hines is now replaced by Adam Baker.
67min: YELLOW CARD - Hines is booked for a late tackle on Dallas out on City's left flank.
65min: Being forced away from goal, Saunders tries his luck with a shot on the turn from around 25 yards out but the effort is comfortably plucked out of the sky by McLaughlin.
64min: SUB - Adeyemi is replaced by Toumani Diagouraga by the hosts.
58min: Dallas' low and inviting centre across the six yard box whizzes across McLaughlin's goal, narrowly missing the lurking Hayes in the middle in the process.
56min: SUB - City bring on Garry Thompson for Reid. With Thompson instantly joining Connell up front, Hines will now operate from the left wing in Reid's absence.
46min: The Bantams restart the replay.
HT: Brentford 1 Bradford City 1
45min: There will be a minute of time added on at the end of the first half.

33min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brentford 0 Bradford City 1 - City take the lead of the replay through the returning Reid! Following a poor touch from Brentford defender Leon Legge, Connell dispossess the giant centre half to set City on the attack. Picking up the loose ball, Zavon Hines speeds into the box with menace before seeing his shot blocked by the recovering Legge. The ball falls out into the path of Reid though, who rifles a low first-time shot past Gournet.
32min: Back-pedaling to reach a hanging Reid free-kick, Carl McHugh can only head comfortably over at the far post on the stretch.
27min: Scott Brown lets fly with a fine volley from just outside the area that whistles not too far away from Antonie Gournet's goal. The ball had made it's way out to the waiting Scottish midfielder after Brentford had half-cleared a Kyel Reid corner.
24min: Jake Bidwell's low cross into the area finds Hayes in plenty of space in the middle but the striker's first-time side-footed effort goes a yard or so wide of McLaughlin's far post.
20min: Alan Connell gets the better of Tony Craig as the pair tussle for possession following Ritchie Jones' free-kick into the area from deep. Connell manages to turn away from Craig after gaining control of the ball but his left-footed drive sails comfortably over the bar.
