Boss praises professional performance

10 November 2012

City boss Phil Parkinson said he was delighted by the professional nature of his side's display in their deserved victory at Aldershot Town this Saturday.

The Bantams' win at the EBB Stadium was inspired by a first half double from Nahki Wells, but a whole host of composed and mature performances across the pitch for Parkinson's men helped to lay the foundations for the victory.

"I was very pleased with the lads today," declared Parkinson.

"There was a ruthless edge to our game. You need that obviously in any game, but especially away from home.

"We competed for everything all over the pitch.

"I was thrilled by the way we approached the game. It was very similar to the way we applied ourselves at Northampton and Oxford earlier this season.

"I think we're really starting to show that we have the right mentality to get results away from home.

"We were strong and we stuck to what we set out to do when we discussed the game last night.

"We knew coming here that the fans were going to be right behind the team and the players were going to be working hard for their manager.

"We combated that well though by getting on the front foot and playing well from the off.

"We got our rewards with the first half goals and that really set things up for us."

Wells' two strikes against the Shots were his eleventh and twelfth goals of an increasingly productive season for the Bermudian.

Despite his obvious delight at the Bermudian's match-winning contribution though, Parkinson was quick to praise his strike partner James Hanson, who played after struggling all this week with a virus.

Parkinson added: "Nahki's goals were a reward for the hard work he put into the game today."

I have to say though that I felt James Hanson made a key contribution for us today as well.

"We didn't really decide until lunch-time today (Saturday) that he was going to play.

"He put himself out there for his team-mates. I don't think he was 100% by any means, but he put in a really good shift for the team.

"Although Nahki will get most of the headlines tomorrow (Sunday), I thought James was outstanding."
