Let's bounce back

17 November 2012

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson is hoping City can target this Tuesday's home fixture with Plymouth Argyle as a good opportunity to quickly bounce back from this Saturday's frustrating defeat at the hands of Exeter City.

After suffering only their second home defeat of the season thanks to a solitary goal from Exeter's Jamie Cureton, City welcome the Grecians' Devon neighbours Plymouth to the Coral Windows Stadium three days later.

Keen to get the disappointing Exeter defeat out of the club's system, Parkinson is backing his squad to respond with a pleasing reaction against the Pilgrims in the week.

Parkinson: "We go again Tuesday, and it's a game we're looking forward to."

"We've talked plenty about the amount of games we have coming up, but the good thing about having a game coming up soon is that we can quickly look to react.

"When you get beat, you want an opportunity to get back to winning ways soon.

"We can't talk about this great spirit and great squad we have - which we do - like we did after the Northampton game (on Tuesday) and then get too critical and be too deflated after one defeat.

"We're going to get defeats throughout the season, of course we are, it's how we respond to them. We'll have to look to do that this Tuesday against Plymouth Argyle.

"We have a terrific bunch of lads here so we'll be ready to do that. We have to be right on the money for that one."

The trio of Stephen Darby, James Meredith and Zavon Hines all missed Saturday's match with Exeter after picking up injuries during the week.

All three are believed to be only carrying minor problems, however, meaning Parkinson hasn't entirely ruled out the possibility of at least one of them returning on Tuesday.

Parkinson added: "We had actually hoped Stephen would play today. When we brought Tom (Naylor) in, I initially explained to him that he'd be on the bench today because Stephen has been playing well.

"But he (Stephen) broke down again in training yesterday (Friday). It's not a major injury - he just felt a bit of discomfort there (hip).

"Mez (James Meredith) is improving a lot and Zavon as well is better than we thought. Whether any of them are ready for Tuesday, we'll just have to wait and see."
