The power of two for the Bantams

13 February 2013

The football club can confirm that Phil Parkinson's Bantams will break with tradition and be led out by TWO official club mascots for their Capital One Cup Final appearance at Wembley Stadium a week on Sunday.

The Football League normally only allows one official mascot per side for the Capital One Cup Final, but, given the individual stories of City's chosen two, the League have agreed to the slight change.

City's two mascots for the showpiece event will be nine year-old Jake Turton and twelve year-old Ryan Siddall.

Jake touched the hearts of thousands of football fans after pictures of the City supporter being picked out of the crowd by Bantams skipper Gary Jones minutes after City's semi-final triumph at Aston Villa last month were shown across the county (see main picture).

Young Jake, who received Jones' shirt at Villa Park, overcame a brain tumour which doctors had feared at one point could kill him.

City's other mascot for Wembley, Ryan, was unfortunately born with a renal condition and is only alive because his father donated a kidney back in 2006. Ryan also suffers from asthma.

A City spokeswoman said: "We wanted to give both of these incredibly brave boys the opportunity to walk out with the team at Wembley and have a truly special day.

"We approached the Football League and asked if we could essentially have an extra mascot on the day as we didn’t want to have to choose between Jake and Ryan.

"The League have been very kind and understanding to enable us to do this."
