Capital One Cup Final - here we come!

23 January 2013

You might have to read it again just to make sure you weren't dreaming (!) But City will contest for the Capital One Cup in the grand final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 24 February 2013.

The final for Phil Parkinson's men will be against Michael Laudrup's Swansea City after the Welsh side defeated Chelsea 2-0 on aggregate in the other semi final.

The date of the final means City will now need to reschedule their forthcoming home League 2 fixture with Rotherham United - a match which is currently down for the day before the Capital One Cup Final.

With Parkinson's side also currently scheduled to face Dagenham & Redbridge on the Tuesday after, City's appearance in the Wembley final may see that particular fixture moved back twenty-four hours.

The Capital One Cup Final will be City's first trip to the new Wembley Stadium and the club's first on Wembley soil since 1996.

The showcase match will also be City's first major domestic final since 1911 - over 101 years ago - and marks the first time a fourth-tier club has got to the final of the League Cup since 1962.
