City win award for Villa victory

10 January 2013

The Bantams have been awarded the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award for their stunning victory over Aston Villa in their Capital One Cup Semi-Final First Leg.

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the award should go to Phil Parkinson's men following their excellent 3-1 home win against Villa this Tuesday.

Parkinson will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to commemorate the award.

The award is the Bantams' first F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award of the season, with a remarkable display to establish a noticeable advantage going into the second leg at Villa Park.

The Bantam’s fantastic run in this season’s Capital One Cup continued into the semi-final first-leg beating Barclays Premier League side, Aston Villa who are 60 places above the League Two club.

Goals from Nahki Wells, Rory McArdle and Carl McHugh on the night ensure Bradford have the advantage going into the second-leg at Villa Park.

After the match, Parkinson was delighted with the performance and result, stating this was a superior achievement to the Arsenal triumph in the last round;"Against Arsenal it was a great night for us but it was an all-round performance tonight.

""Villa played a really attacking team and we had to defend really well. Equally, they left a lot of space on the pitch for us to play and it was important our quality players played with calmness on the ball and they certainly did that.
