New Ireland trip update

18 July 2013

City were back on the training pitch at their Irish base on the fourth full day of their pre-season trip to the country.

The Bantams were met by blue sky and sunshine when they woke up this Thursday morning ahead of training.

After predominately warm but cloudy conditions earlier in the week, temperatures were up to 26 degrees at the club's hotel in the Emerald Isle.

The temperatures were so warm in fact it prompted Rory McArdle to completely shave off the full beard he had been proudly sporting just twenty-four hours earlier during his Bantams Player interview - he looks a new man!

McArdle and his team-mates took part in a 1 hour and 45 minute training session in the morning on their hotel's main football pitch. The physically-demanding session was played out at an impressive tempo despite the heat and featured number of different sectors to it, including, among other things, movement drills, explosive power exercises, training games and shooting practice.

After a spot of lunch and a few hours to rest and relax, Phil Parkinson's men were back at it in the gymnasium.

As with almost all gym sessions led by the club's influential Head of Sports Science Nick Allamby, the afternoon workout focused on strengthening the key areas used commonly in football, such as the glute, oblique and groin muscles.

Following interviews with Parkinson, Steve Parkin and McArdle earlier in the week, Bantams Player went behind the scenes again this Thursday to speak to Michael Nelson and Nahki Wells.
