Bantams boss Phil Parkinson believes progress is being made as he looks to get his squad in place for City's return to League 1 next season.

Just under a month since City's Play-Off Final victory over Northampton Town at Wembley Stadium, Parkinson is working away behind the scenes in a bid to ensure the Bantams are in shape for the big kick off come August.

Despite recently securing the services again of Andrew Davies, City, like a number of League 1 clubs, have yet to make a move in the transfer market this summer.

With around eight weeks still to go before the first scheduled Football League fixtures of the new campaign though, Parkinson reckons the waiting game for many may still go on for a bit longer.

Parkinson said: "Promotion last season was obviously a very special thing to be part of for us all and hugely important for the club, but plans for next season began pretty much straight after really.

"Meeting our existing players, meeting some new players and their agents, it is all about getting the best players into our squad for next season to give us the best possible chance.

"It is very easy to sign players at this stage of the summer but they are often not quite the sort of quality that you need.

"We are competing with other clubs for players so that means we have to wait and be patient.

"We have to sell our vision to players when they come to see us. We are on a journey at the moment but it is only just the start of it.

"We want to bring people in who will fit in with what we have here already.

"Your season can be decided in a certain way by your business at this stage of the summer - it is a balancing act for all managers.

"There is a budget in place we have to work with, and I don't want to spend it all too early and miss out on some of my preferred signings just because we weren't patient enough to wait for their signature.

"We have got some offers out there on the table to players and we've tested the water with a few others.

"I should still imagine, however, it will take a couple more weeks."

Any players currently under the watchful eye of Parkinson won't just be judged by their ability on the pitch.

Keen to keep the good team spirit within the camp that served City so well last season, Parkinson says that any new recruits brought in will have the right credentials to fit in off the pitch as well as on it.

Parkinson added: "The dynamics of the dressing room is very important - players coming into the club must have the right character to fit in with our current group of lads.

"When you are together as a squad for ten, nearly eleven, months of year like we were last season, it is important that the players we bring in are right. I am sure we will get that."
