Bantams assistant Steve Parkin feels City fans shouldn't expect too much from new signing Lewis Clarkson too soon following the striker's arrival at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Clarkson put pen to paper on an eighteenth-month deal with the Bantams this week following his free transfer move from Scarborough Athletic.

The 19 year-old forward, who moved to Scarborough from Hull City in the summer, caught the eye of a number of Football League clubs thanks to his scoring form for 'Boro.

After scouting the pacey attacker in action this season, City decided to make their move for Clarkson now and bring him into the football club.

Speaking about Clarkson's arrival, Parkin believes he is a player who has the potential to develop greatly at the football club but he won't be ready for first team action straight away.

Parkin said: "He's a 'fox in the box', who can pop up and score you goals. He is a lively kid who never gives defenders any peace. We've had him watched several times by different people and the opinion was that he had the potential to be a real threat for us in and around the penalty box.

"With that in mind, the club have decided the time was now right to bring Lewis in. He is certainly one for the future for us at the moment. He won't go into the first team right now.

"We have to access him physically and get him up to speed in terms of training day in, day out with a professional team. This move is certainly a terrific opportunity for him and we hope he embraces it. We hope we can help develop him into a really, really good goalscorer for us."
