The defeat, only City's second of the league campaign, also sees Parkinson's men fail to find the net for the first time in the league this season.

The almost constant time-wasting by Fon Williams at every Tranmere goal-kick in the second period - even before Lowe's opener - was another source of frustration to those on the Bradford bench.

The strange decision not to red card Goodison was one of a number of things that annoyed the City camp, with the Bantams also having three penalty shouts turned down in the first half.

Despite City's protests though, the match official chose only to caution Goodison after consulting with his fourth official.

Looking to shield the ball out of play right in front of the dug-outs, Goodison appeared to lead with his elbow in an attempt to prevent Reid from stopping Tranmere getting a throw-in.

The game could have been a largely different affair if referee Darren Drysdale had spotted a clear elbow on Kyel Reid by Rovers captain Ian Goodison midway into the first half.

Although not at their best, City still could have snatched a share of the spoils in the game's closing stages as substitute Caleb Folan and Gary Jones were both denied by Tranmere 'keeper Owain Fon Williams.

A single Ryan Lowe goal just over twenty minutes from the end was enough to give Tranmere a barely-deserved three-point haul as the visitors saw off late City pressure to pick up only their second league win of the season. The Bantams suffered their first home defeat of the season at the hands of Tranmere Rovers on a frustrating afternoon for Phil Parkinson's men.
