Under 18s continue fine start

14 September 2013

City's Under 18s continued their amazing start to the new season by securing an impressive victory at nearest rivals Doncaster Rovers this Saturday (14 September 2013) morning.

The Bantams' youth team, who are lead by Youth Team Coach Steve Thornber and Head of Youth Development Peter Horne, defeated Rovers 4-1 in clinical fashion thanks to a hat-trick from Oliver McBurnie and a further strike from fellow forward Callum Chippendale.

The victory not only keeps City's youngsters at the top of the Football League Youth Alliance North East table, but sees them beat the only other unbeaten side in their division.

The Doncaster win means the Under 18s have now won ALL five of their opening fixtures, scoring seventeen goals and conceding only four in the process.

Some of those other victories have included a 3-1 win at third-placed Hull City and a 5-0 win at mid-table York City.

The five victories have been all the more impressive considering that each of City's fixtures so far have been played away from home due to redevelopment work on the youth team pitch at the club's Apperley Bridge training ground.

While the Under 18s' stats as a collective unit will make great reading for all City fans, there is one individual in the club's youth ranks who is also making some eye-catching headlines of his own.

McBurnie's hat-trick in the Doncaster victory was his THIRD in four matches at youth level. He has scored in every game so far this season and has ELEVEN goals from the first five games in City's youth league.

The young striker, who enjoyed a spell on work experience with Manchester United over the summer, recently signed a three-year pro contract with City but is continuing his development at present by playing with the youth team.
