Bradford City picked up a vital and hard-fought victory over Play-Offs hopefuls Peterborough United in their Good Friday fixture at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Adam Reach's delightful free-kick just before the half hour mark sealed the win for City against a 'Boro side who had Shaun Brisley sent off shortly before the interval for two bookings in a minute of each other.

With Reach looking dangerous at the top of a 'diamond formation' midfield for City, Phil Parkinson's men deservedly held the lead at the break thanks to the Middlesbrough's loanee's tremendous strike.

The attacker's set-piece goal came after Reach had won the free-kick himself by showing some fancy footwork to get the better of both Tommy Rowe and Jack Payne.

Reach dusted himself down to take the kick and proceeded the curl the effort into the top corner past Jack Day's dive from all of 25 yards out.

Reach was involved in the action again five minutes before the break when Peterborough defender Brisley was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Barely sixty seconds after collecting his first booking for bringing down Jon Stead as the attacker looked to surge into Peterborough territory, Brisley was penalised again in similar fashion to leave the away side a man down after halting Reach's progress.

Despite being at a numerical disadvantage, Peterborough threw caution to the wind in the second period, on occasion leaving only one or two defenders back during attacks.

One of the visitors' brightest moments of the second period came when Britt Assombalonga got free of Adam Drury to surge into the Bantams area.

Assombalonga tried to pick out team-mate Conor Washington with the cut back, but Stephen Darby was in the right place to make the vital block and Jon McLaughlin managed to gather up the scraps.

Peterborough kept City's defence occupied for most of the half as time slowly ticked away, with Assombalonga lurking as a constant threat, but Parkinson's side could have managed a second in injury time when sub Kyle Bennett fed a Reach cross back into the path of the recalled James Hanson.

Hanson's shot had the beating of Day but left back Kgosi Ntlhe was on hand to kick clear off his goal-line. Before his involvement in Hanson's effort, Bennett had himself already been repelled earlier in the half when he saw his header well-saved by Day following another Reach cross into the area.

Along with Hanson's chance, Peterborough's Mark Little also went close in injury time when a long kick forward from Day deflected off Assombalonga and into his path. The roaming right-back's low effort from the edge of the area was well-struck but McLaughlin got down well to his left to cling onto the drive.

Two Peterborough corners in added time gave Day the opportunity to leave his own area and make his presence felt in the Bantams penalty box. Despite the added figure of the Peterborough 'keeper in the box, however, the Bantams saw out the danger to pick up a massive victory.
