Early team news for Vale match

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson believes Andrew Davies and Aaron Mclean should be fine to keep their places in City's starting eleven for this Tuesday despite having concerns over the pair ahead of last weekend's postponed fixture at Coventry City.

The Bantams entertain Port Vale at the Coral Windows Stadium this Tuesday evening having been left without a fixture on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch at Coventry's temporary base of Sixfields Stadium in Northampton.

Going into the Sky Blues clash, Parkinson admitted he was questioning whether to rest Davies given the defender's recent workload following his return last month from a serious knee injury.

A bout of illness for Aaron Mclean was also giving Parkinson food for thought, with the City chief saying that the striker probably would have missed out on starting against Coventry due to the bug if the game had indeed taken place.

The extra few days between the postponed Coventry fixture and this Tuesday's Port Vale game has convinced Parkinson, however, that the pair should be right as rain for the visit of Micky Adams' side.

Parkinson said: "Obviously we wanted the (Coventry) game to be on. We had prepared properly for the match and we were ready for action, so it was disappointing.

"On the positive side, however, the break has helped Aaron Mclean a bit.

"Aaron had a bit of illness on the Thursday and didn't come into training. He travelled down with us on Friday but he still wasn't completely right and probably would have only made the bench.

"With Andrew Davies, he still would have played on Saturday but these extra couple of days gives him a bit more of a break. The Crewe and Carlisle games just gone were his first Saturday-Tuesday fixtures on the trot still returning from injury.

"The break was definitely a bonus for him because it was always in the back of my mind whether we were pushing him too far playing him again at the weekend.

"If we can get him through this Tuesday-Saturday set of fixtures coming up (Port Vale and Milton Keynes Dons), he should hopefully have no more problems for the rest of the season."

Mark Yeates could join Mclean and Davies in City's match-day squad for this Tuesday after recently returning to training following a knee problem.

Young striker Lewis Clarkson is still being troubled by his own knee injury though, while Matt Taylor (foot) and Raffaele De Vita (hip) remain sidelined as well.
