LONG-TERM LOANS AN OPTION

23 June 2014

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson says that he is looking to bolster his squad for the forthcoming 2014/2015 campaign with some young loan players from the Barclays Premier League.

The City chief has already secured four summer signings - Matthew Dolan, Billy Knott, Gary Liddle and Alan Sheehan - while Stephen Darby and Rory McArdle have also committed their futures to the club by signing new contracts.

Parkinson is perfectly aware, however, that further recruits are required ahead of City's Sky Bet League 1 curtain-raiser against Coventry City at the Coral Windows Stadium on Saturday 9 August.

While Parkinson will continue his search for further permanent signings, the Bantams manager has revealed that he is also keen to swell his ranks by adding some talented youngsters from the country's top division.

It is a tactic that worked handsomely for a number of City's League 1 rivals last season, but Parkinson knows he might have to bide his time to bring in the right sort of players.

Parkinson said: "We are looking into bringing in a couple of long-term loan signings for this season.

"We are working hard and speaking to Premier League managers all the time to secure such deals.

"So far, we've had a lot of positive feedback but the impression I get is that clubs want their players to do pre-season with them and then they will make decisions on them.

"This means that these deals might not happen until well into pre-season.

"There is a certain element of risk sometimes in waiting (for these deals) but we aim to have the core of the squad in place by then. That will mean we can afford to wait."
