De Vita making progress

14 March 2014

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson is cautiously optimistic about Raffaele De Vita's chances of being back in the first team fold sooner rather than later after the Italian made a return to training this week.

De Vita hasn't featured since December due to a problematic hip injury that has refused to go away.

The winger tried to make a successful return to training last month but unfortunately suffered another set-back.

After taking an injection last week to try and finally solve the problem though, De Vita does now seem to be making some genuine progress.

Having seen the Italian winger stumble before when trying to step up his rehab, Parkinson is naturally not eager to look too far ahead with regards De Vita.

All being well though, De Vita could be in contention for the first team once again within the next couple of weeks.

Parkinson said: "Raf has trained this week.

"There has been no reaction so far but we don't want to tempt fate really because we were encouraged when he came back before and then he had a set-back.

"We'll see how he is over the weekend after the week's training.

"If he comes back ok and continues to train then hopefully we can start to include him in the (match-day) squads."

After a troublesome knee problem, young striker Lewis Clarkson has been on the training pitch this week doing some drills with Head Physio Matt Barrass.

It is hoped Clarkson can join in with full training in around two weeks time.

Matt Taylor's season looks to be over, however, after it was confirmed the defender needs surgery to correct a foot injury.

Surgery for Taylor will force the centre half to write off this season and instead concentrate on making a return for pre-season training in the summer.
