CITY KIT MAN BEGINS HIS CHARITY TREK

24 April 2015

City's popular kit man John Duckworth and his group of supporters have begun their Lincoln-to-Bradford charity trek this Friday in aid of the Bradford Burns Unit.

Following several weeks of preparation, John has now begun the 73 mile walk from Lincoln City's Sincil Bank ground to the Coral Windows Stadium to help raise funds for the unit, now also known as the PSBRU (Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit).

After reaching Valley Parade on Saturday, John and his group will complete their walking challenge with a lap of honour around the ground ahead of the Bantams' final league home match of the season against Barnsley.

The life-long City supporter has selected to undertake this mammoth effort to coincide with the forthcoming 30th anniversary of the Valley Parade fire disaster.

Lincoln has been chosen as the starting point for the charity walk given the fact that the Imps were City's opponents on that fateful day back on Saturday 11 May 1985.

For John, the walk, of course, will not be the first time he has made this particular trek.

John walked from Valley Parade to Sincil Bank ahead of City's New Year's Day match with Lincoln in 2011 before making the return journey (Sincil Bank to Valley Parade) in a secondary charity trek ahead of the Bantams' final home match of the season against Swindon Town in 2012.

On top of those sterling efforts, the City kit man - along with the assistance of his BantamsTrek group - has also helped to organise plenty of other fundraising events over the years, including three Yorkshire Three Peaks walking challenges, two coffee mornings and numerous other charity events for the Burns Unit and MacMillan Cancer Support.

As John makes his trip from Sincil Bank to the Coral Windows Stadium this weekend, he will be joined along the way by a selection of Barnsley supporters also walking to the Yorkshire derby.

John will also be joined on certain sections of the route by various City staff members and supporters.

For any City supporters meeting John and his walking group at Tong School, please can they contact Angela Gordon - agordan1966@hotmail.co.uk - to provide car registration details for the car you will be using on the day and the amount of people that will be in that car. This information is for security purposes and has been requested by the school.

SUPPORTERS CAN ALSO DONATE BY TEXTING BANT56 (amount) TO 70070 (eg BANT56 £2.00 to 70070).
