McARDLE DOMINATES PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

29 April 2015

Consistent central defender Rory McArdle capped off a fine individual season by dominating City's end-of-season Player of the Year awards at the Coral Windows Stadium this Tuesday evening.

McArdle, who turns 28 on Friday, won the club's main Telegraph & Argus Player of the Year title, while the centre half was also named the Players' Player of the Year after winning the vote from his team-mates.

The Northern Irish international beat Gary Liddle and Billy Clarke to both of the main two awards of the night.

As well as picking up those honours, McArdle also snapped up three of the Player of the Year titles given out by some of City's main supporters' clubs - Shipley Bantams, East Bierley Bantams and White Abbey Branch.

In front of roughly 600 supporters and guests in the club's McCall Suite at Valley Parade, McArdle received the Telegraph & Argus Most Consistent Player of the Year award as well, meaning the defender managed to collect SIX trophies in total on the night.

McArdle said: "I am absolutely over the moon - it is not something I expected if I'm being honest.

"If you look how the season has gone for us, any number of players from our squad could have won these awards.

"This will really give me a boost going into the summer months to help me come back even stronger and hopefully try and win these awards next year."

While McArdle's success was undoubtedly the highlight of the night, there was reason to celebrate for other members of the Bantams family.

Clarke won the Player of the Year award for the Friends of Bradford City, who once again organised the event.

Midfielder Sam Wright won the Youth Team Player of the Year after helping City's Under 18s to a second successive league title this season. Billy Knott was named Bradford City's Supporters' Trust Under 25s Player of the Year title.

Mark Yeates' goal at Chelsea won the Pulse1 Sport Moment of the Season.
