PARKINSON READY FOR 'POIGNANT DAY'

24 April 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson says City will be ready to do everything in their power to ensure they mark an emotional day for the football club this Saturday in the right way.

Given that Saturday's fixture against Barnsley at the Coral Windows Stadium is City's last home game of the season, the club will hold their traditional minute's silence ahead of kick off to remember the 56 supporters lost in the Valley Parade fire disaster.

On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the tragedy, all other Football League and Premier League fixtures this weekend will join the Bantams in taking part in a pre-match minute's silence to show their respects to those lost on that fateful day back on 11 May 1985.

Parkinson said: "It is extremely important that we remember the 56 people we lost in the disaster.

"I am pleased that this time around it is being acknowledged around the country as well - I feel this is the right thing to do.

"We know that it will be a very poignant day around the ground on Saturday and it is important that we do the day justice by putting in a good performance.

"It is an important time for everybody connected with the football club and the city as a whole, and we have to do everything we can to put on a good showing for the fans this weekend.

"As I said to the boys directly after Tuesday (vs Scunthorpe United), preparation for this game will be crucial because we want to give the players every chance of putting in the best performance possible against Barnsley.

"We want to do the day justice and we will be working as hard as we can to make sure we do that."
