Bantams boss Phil Parkinson was left to think of what might have been after City fell the wrong side of a tight and hard-fought encounter with fellow Play-Off contenders Chesterfield at the Coral Windows Stadium this Tuesday.

With very little to choose between the two sides, the game was ultimately decided in first half injury time when Chesterfield striker Byron Harrison latched onto Gary MacKenzie's weak header back before slotting past Ben Williams from close range.

In tricky wet and windy conditions, Parkinson's men tried to force their way back into the contest in the second period but their best effort from substitute Tony McMahon was well saved by Keighley-born Chesterfield shot-stopper Tommy Lee in the final minute of normal time.

Parkinson said: "It was a game typical of this stage of the season really.

"As I thought before the match, there was no quarter given. It was always going to be a tight affair, especially considering what was at stake.

"Unfortunately just one moment has cost us. It was tough on Gary (MacKenzie) because he has been excellent for us since he's come in.

"There was nothing in the game. Neither goalkeeper had a great deal to do.

"Credit to Chesterfield, they came and did a good job on us.

"From our point of view, our performances level were probably down five or ten percent from where they were on Saturday (vs Oldham Athletic).

"The goal was key, however. If we'd gone into half time 0-0, you'd have fancied us to go on and win the game.

"These games are all about defining moments though. Their 'keeper's save at the end from Tony McMahon has earned them two extra points.

"There was so little to choose between the two teams.

"We regroup now and get ready for our trip to Doncaster Rovers on (Good) Friday.

"We have two terrific Easter games (Doncaster and Preston North End) to look forward to, and hopefully we will learn from tonight (Tuesday) and go into those games with renewed spirit."
