Following on from the 4-1 reversal at Swindon on Saturday, Parkinson's men get their Capital One Cup campaign underway for another season with a Yorkshire derby at Sky Bet League 2 side York City this Tuesday.
Parkinson is expected to use the round 1 tie as an opportunity to make changes to the eleven that began at Swindon, with a number of the players who were named on the bench at the County Ground likely to be given a starting berth at York.
Stephen Darby could also be rested due to a minor calf problem, meaning Tony McMahon may start the game at right back.
Parkinson said: "We know the value of this competition.
"Beating Morecambe last season got us the glamour tie of Leeds United at home in the next round. The Morecambe game was a tough one though, and we expect the York match to be just the same.
"We have a proud record in cup competitions over the last couple of years and we will be stressing to the players before the game the importance of this match to us.
"I'm looking forward to seeing a few players out there on Tuesday given the opportunity to stake a claim for one of the shirts.
"We have players who need the minutes under their belts and if we don't get them on the pitch Tuesday, you wonder when we can play them.
"Equally, I don't think our best eleven will emerge for a couple of weeks yet because there is definitely competition for places.
"This is a terrific tie for us to look forward to.
"It is a Yorkshire derby for us which will be played at a traditional football ground. Our job is to make sure we play as well as we did in the first half at Swindon across the whole of the match against York."
