VALE CONNECTIONS

26 August 2015

The Bantams welcome Port Vale to the Coral Windows Stadium this Saturday (29 August 2015) for their latest Sky Bet League 1 fixture.

This Saturday's match will incredibly be the 23rd meeting between the two clubs in just less than eleven years.

The large number of recent games between City and Vale has certainly been helped by the fact that the two clubs have been in the same division for ten of the previous eleven league seasons.

Both teams have also featured in two Johnstone's Paint Trophy ties against each other in recent years as well - once at the Coral Windows Stadium in 2009 and once at Vale Park in 2012.

The Bantams have played Vale nine times under the reign of Phil Parkinson.

This Saturday's encounter could see former Valiants winger Mark Marshall line up for City against his old club for the first time.

Marshall played 49 times for Vale during the 2014/2015 campaign.

City midfielder Billy Knott also used to play for Port Vale on loan from Sunderland before his arrival at the Coral Windows Stadium in May 2014.

On the other side of things, Vale's current number 1 goalkeeper is likely to be familiar to most City supporters this weekend.

Jak Alnwick, who spent a short period on loan with City last season, moved to Vale Park during the summer after leaving Newcastle United.

Alnwick made a single appearance for Parkinson's men away at Notts County before his loan spell was cut short due to a wrist injury.

Vale striker Achille Campion had a trial period with City during pre-season ahead of the 2014/2015 campaign along with fellow Frenchman Christopher Routis

Routis was obviously kept on by Parkinson while Campion left Valley Parade and was eventually signed on by Port Vale later that season.
