In front of nearly 1500 vocal away supporters, Tony McMahon's third goal of the season midway through the second period sealed the win for Phil Parkinson's men when he confidently slotted home after being picked out in the box by the impressive Billy Clarke.

McMahon's goal was no more than City had deserved after engineering a host of promising scoring chances earlier in the match.

Parkinson's side twice hit the post in the game - once through Clarke in the first period and then again via Kyel Reid in the second half. Chesterfield shot-stopper Tommy Lee also produced important saves to deny Clarke and Hanson before McMahon's eventual match-winner.

The victory - City's fifth away success so far this season - sees the Bantams just outside the Play-Off positions due to mere goal difference.

90min: O'Shea's hanging ball into the box from deep is met by Banks but the midfielder's header but Williams can comfortably watch the ball bounce wide of his goal for a goal-kick.

88min: Gardner sees his angled shot inside the box blocked by McArdle. As Chesterfield keep the pressure on, Donohue tries his luck from outside the area shortly afterwards but the low effort goes wide.

87min: Cole's neat flick forward from a City throw-in in-field finds Reid bursts forward towards the penalty area. Reid's initial touch is a heavy one unfortunately though, and Chesterfield can clear the danger. 

82min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Devante Cole for Billy Clarke.

77min: SUB - Chesterfield bring on Rai Simons for O'Neil.

72min: As City keep the pressure up from the resulting corner, Burke sees a shot spilled by Lee before Clarke fires in from close range. The goal is ruled out for a foul by McArdle on Lee, however, with the defender appearing to kick the ball out of the 'keeper's hands as he tried to regain possession after his initial spill.

71min: Clarke beats Evatt to a bouncing ball to find himself clear on goal with only Lee to beat. Clarke tries to beat the Chesterfield 'keeper with a low side-footed effort but the home shot-stopper appears to get a slight touch on the ball and it deflects narrowly wide of the far post.

69min: McMahon's flighted ball forward is flicked on by Hanson into the past of the lurking Billy Clarke around the edge of the box. Clarke looks to have a clean sight of goal but his first touch lets him down and the ball unfortunately rolls through to Lee.

68min: Williams holds onto Evatt's far post header following Donohue's corner delivery. Reid has the ball at his feet on the right flank during City's next attack shortly afterwards. He gets away from Gardner before cutting inside onto his favoured left foot and rolling in a low drive that is relatively comfortable for Lee.

68min: YELLOW CARDS - McArdle and Ebanks-Blake are both booked for a coming together inside the box before the resulting corner.

67min: Banks' curling effort from just outside City's penalty area takes a touch off McArdle before going wide of Williams' far post and out for a Chesterfield corner.

62min: YELLOW CARD - Humphreys is booked for catching Reid with a late tackle as the winger looked to drive up City's left flank.

61min: SUB - Chesterfield bring on Dan Gardner for Ariyibi.

60min: Dion Donohue's throw-in in-field finds Gboly Ariyib but the American winger's low drive from outside the box rolls harmlessly wide of Williams' far post.

53min: Hanson is denied in impressive fashion from the following corner delivery! The giant striker connects with McMahon's ball but his downward header is superbly pushed around the post by Lee.

52min: City hit the post again! McMahon's pass forward finds the run of Darby perfectly just outside the box. Darby plays the ball across to Reid and the winger rifles a strike against the post. It appears Lee may have got a touch on the ball because a corner is given.

46min: The Bantams restart the match.

HT SUB - Chesterfield bring on Ritchie Humphreys for Talbot just before the start of the second period.

45+1min: Ebanks-Blake heads over following Talbot's ball into the box.

45min: There will be one minute of time added on at the end of the first half.

44min: Reece Burke's downward header from the resulting McMahon corner delivery drops a yard or so wide of Lee's far post.

43min: Reid's searching ball towards the far post has to be headed behind by Talbot to prevent McMahon from steaming in with a header of his own from close range. 

41min: Hanson's strike from just outside the box deflects off a Chesterfield player, looping up and over Lee's crossbar for a corner.

40min: Drew Talbot's cross into the box is headed away by McArdle before O'Neil latches onto the loose ball from just outside the area and rifles a half-volley narrowly over the bar.

33min: Initially starting in a wide position just inside the box, Billy Clarke turns in-field and away from goal to around the edge of the box before trying an ambitious effort on the turn that sails high and wide of Lee's net.

28min: Liddle is first to a wide free-kick delivery from McMahon but his mis-timed header sails over the stand behind Lee's goal.

26min: Kyel Reid fires in a low strike from roughly twenty yards out that has to be pushed around the post by the fingertips of Lee.

23min: Banks gets away from Greg Leigh before whipping a dangerous ball into the box but Rory McArdle is in the right place to knock clear. O'Neill sends over another cross from the same right flank shortly afterwards, this time Ebanks-Blake connects with a header which is held by Williams. 

19min: Jay O'Shea tries to slip Ebanks-Blake in with a sight of goal inside the Bantams box but Darby gets across to make a vital interception.

16min: Inches wide from Hanson! McMahon fizzes the ball across the six yard box and the giant striker on the stretch narrowly diverts the ball past Tommy Lee's far post with an out-stretched left boot.

15min: City hit the post! After Tony McMahon's initial corner delivery is cleared, the City midfielder whips the ball back into the mix and Billy Clarke sees a glancing header strike the far post. Gary Liddle keeps the attack alive but his effort from the edge of the box is repelled by Lee. Chesterfield are on the counter-attack seconds later but Stephen Darby goes well to halt the progress of Ollie Banks as the midfielder looked to surge dangerously into City's box from a wide position. Banks tries to drive past Darby but the defender makes the tackle, with the ball bouncing back off the Chesterfield midfielder for a goal-kick.

13min: Latching onto Billy Clarke's neat flick on, James Hanson drives from a wide position into the box. Hanson holds off Liam O'Neil before crossing into the box from the byline but the ball is headed away by Charlie Raglan.

10min: Sylvan Ebanks-Blake controls Sam Hird's header forward before firing in a low drive on the turn from just outside the box. The effort lacks the power or placement to overly concern Ben Williams, however, as the 'keeper gathers up the ball with relative ease.

2min: A delightful cross-field pass from Reece Burke finds Tony McMahon in a good amount of space over on City's right flank. McMahon looks to drive into the box, presumably to pick out a team-mate with a low cross into the six yard box, but his touch unfortunately lets him down and the ball bobbles out for a goal-kick.

0min: Chesterfield kick off the match. City will attack towards the away end in the first half.
