The Bantams return to Sky Bet League 1 action this Saturday (12 December 2015) when Southend United travel to the Coral Windows Stadium.

Part of Southend's travelling party for the game is expected to be former Bantams midfielder Will Atkinson.

After initially featuring for the club while on loan from Hull City the previous campaign, Atkinson signed permanently at Valley Parade ahead of the 2012/2013 season.

Atkinson went onto be part of the famous history-makers squad that reached the Capital One Cup Final and secured promotion via the League 2 Play-Offs.

Southend manager Phil Brown and the Shrimpers' Football Co-Ordinator Brian Horton are also close friends with City assistant boss Steve Parkin after the trio worked together at Hull during the Tigers' first spell in the Premiership.

While City were defeating Chesham United in the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday, Southend were without a game at the weekend after losing in the first round last month to Scunthorpe United.

Southend did play during this week, however, when they entertained Millwall in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Bantams chief Phil Parkinson was in the crowd at Roots Hall on Tuesday to see Southend lose out 2-0 to the Lions in the Southern Section (Area) Semi-Final.

City's previous match with Southend at the Coral Windows Stadium came on Good Friday 2013 when Parkinson's men fought back from conceding two early goals to secure a 2-2 draw thanks to second half strikes from Zavon Hines and James Hanson.

Hanson also scored for City on Southend's only other visit to Valley Parade during Parkinson's time as Bantams boss.

The fixture, which also took place on Good Friday, saw the Bantams win 2-0 via a first half goal from the City striker and a second half penalty from Craig Fagan.
