City moved within one point of the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off places after a hard-fought win at underachieving Leyton Orient.

A first half double from James Hanson was enough to secure City's seventh league away win of the season and move them just behind sixth-placed Doncaster Rovers with a game in hand.

Hanson's first goal was a thunderous half-volley from the edge of the box after he'd been picked out by the recalled Mark Yeates.

The striker's second - his fourth goal in City's last three league games - came about just after the half hour mark when he headed home from a wide free-kick delivery from Filipe Morais.

Orient's Romain Vincelot had actually hit the bar for the hosts in the opening stages of the game before Hanson's double as City proved the more clinical of the two sides going into the break.

Hanson and team-mate Andrew Davies would not re-emerge for the second half due to slight hamstring strains, however, leading to Francois Zoko replacing Hanson and Gary MacKenzie being handed a debut appearance for the club.

Zoko could have netted his first goal for the club early after the restart but the presence of a recovering Shane Lowry and Orient shot-stopper Alex Cisak proved enough to block the Ivorian out after he had been played through on goal by Yeates.

With City looking to see the game out, Orient enjoyed some good spells of play during the second period. Stephen Darby had to kick clear from right in front of his own goal after Dean Cox had turned Nathan Clarke's cross goal-bound.

Orient went closer six minutes from the end when Morais had to position himself perfectly to block Chris Dagnall's close range strike off the line.

Either side of those chances for Orient, Andy Halliday - another player brought back into City's starting line up by Bantams boss Phil Parkinson - could have wrapped up the points.

After being played clear down City's right flank by Morais, Halliday galloped into Orient's penalty area but his left-footed drive from around eight yards out was somehow tipped around the post by Cisak.

In the end, Hanson's first half goals gave City more than enough to hang onto as they stretched their current unbeaten run to six games.

83min: Hedges' effort direct from a free-kick about 25 yards is pushed around the post by Pickford.
81min: Wright plays Dagnall into a pocket of space but the striker's low angled drive across goal is held by Pickford to his right.

63min: Zoko fires in teasing cross that narrowly whistles past Clarke and across the six yard box before bouncing out for goal-kick.

58min: SUB - Orient bring on Ryan Hedges for Cox.
56min: As Nathan Clarke puts the ball back into the mix following an over-hit Orient corner, Cox steals in to fire the ball goalwards and an alert Stephen Darby has to be on hand to kick clear from right in front of his own goal.
53min: So close for the Bantams! After Halliday had made a great tackle to win back possession just outside Orient's penalty box, Yeates plays Zoko in with a clear shooting chance on goal. As Zoko looks fire past last-man Cisak though, Shane Lowry gets back and does just enough to prevent the Ivorian from having a clean strike at goal. The ball still breaks free to Clarke but the striker's rising drive on the half-volley is repelled by a strong hand from Cisak before Orient can eventually clear.
46min: The Bantams restart the match.
HT SUB: City bring on Gary MacKenzie and Francois Zoko for Davies and Hanson respectively just before the start of the second half.

35min: Cox's ball over the top has Dagnall interested as he moves towards City's penalty area. McArdle's manages to get a toe on the bouncing ball before Pickford races out of his goal to just beat the Orient striker to the attempted pass.
32min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!! Leyton Orient 0 Bradford City 2 - Hanson doubles City's lead and his tally for the night! Morais' teasing free-kick delivery from wide seems to leave Cisak unsure as to whether he should come for it or not and Hanson swoops in to head home into the near bottom corner.
31min: Racing out of his area to beat Dagnall to a forward pass, Pickford's attempted kick clear deflects off Mooney before bouncing free in the middle of the pitch. Luckily for City, Gary Liddle is the nearest player to the ball and he can clear.
24min: Vincelot comes steaming in to connect with Dean Cox's corner but his downward header bounces up off the turf and straight into the clutches of Pickford.
21min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leyton Orient 0 Bradford City 1 - James Hanson has City into the lead with a thunderous right-footed effort from the edge of the box! Mark Yeates' flighted pass from just inside Orient's half placed Hanson in with a sight of goal and the giant forward took full advantage by crashing the ball past Cisak with a rising half-volley.
16min: Pickford is back up and able to defend the corner, which City eventually kick clear despite claims of handball against Morais as the ball pings around the Bantams' box. Dagnall is also able to continue shortly afterwards.
15min: Pickford and Chris Dagnall both now require a bit of brief treatment following the mad scramble in City's box.
15min: Orient hit the bar! Elliott Omozusi's ball into the area eventually drops into the path of Romain Vincelot, who crashes a rising strike against the underside of Pickford's bar from around ten yards out. 9min: Up for a Filipe Morais free-kick which is initially cleared, Andrew Davies gets his head onto a cross back into the box from Andy Halliday but the defender's connection isn't clean and Alex Cisak can move across to claim the looping ball.
5min: The ball falls into the path of Dean Cox following a free-kick from deep by Orient but the winger's half-volley from the edge of the area bounces comfortably into the gloves of Jordan Pickford.
