MACKENZIE GLAD TO BE BACK

23 February 2015

Bantams defender Gary MacKenzie was buzzing to be back on the pitch after making his home debut in City's draw with Walsall at the Coral Windows Stadium this Saturday.

Signed from Blackpool on loan at the start of the month, MacKenzie played the second half during last Wednesday win at Leyton Orient before being given his full debut in the Walsall match.

For MacKenzie, the game was his first competitive start in ten months after suffering a nasty Achilles injury during his time with Blackpool.

MacKenzie said: "It was fantastic just to be back on the pitch.

"That was my first 90 minutes since April last year so personally it was great to be back out there.

"We were disappointed to concede late on because we played so well for large parts of the game.

"We will learn from our mistakes, however, take it on board and move on.

"It was good to get 45 minutes at Leyton Orient on Wednesday as well. That probably got some of the rustiness out of my system.

"I felt better as the game went on (on Saturday) and I felt quite good in the second half.

"As a footballer, you want to be out there training and playing and it has been too long for me being away.

"There is great support here and it was fantastic to play in front of them.

"There is a good feeling around the club at the moment and I could sense that when I signed here.

"The fans really get behind the players and it is there for all to see that the boys are really trying their hardest for them.

"There is a good buzz about the place and it has certainly helped me to settle in that bit better.

"They are an honest bunch of lads and I have really enjoyed it here so far."

With Andrew Davies doubtful for this Tuesday's trip to Swindon Town due to the same hamstring injury that kept him out of the Walsall match, MacKenzie could in line to keep his place in City's side at the County Ground.

MacKenzie added: "The lads have been playing well since I've arrived and the aim will be to continue that at Swindon.

"With the right mindset, we can give anyone a game in this division."
