PARKINSON PROUD OF CITY'S EFFORT AND ENDEAVOUR

15 February 2015

A buzzing Bantams boss Phil Parkinson couldn't have been prouder of City's powerful display during their impressive F.A Cup Fifth Round win over Premier League side Sunderland at the Coral Windows Stadium this Sunday.

Parkinson's brilliant Bantams deservedly booked their place Monday's quarter final draw by defeating Sunderland 2-0 in front of a crowd of 24,021 - a new record attendance for the stadium in its current configuration.

An early Billy Clarke strike that deflected in off Sunderland skipper John O'Shea gave Bradford the half time lead before Jon Stead kept up his run of scoring in every round by netting City's second after the break.

Once Stead had netted City's second in the 62nd minute, Parkinson's side never really looked like letting their advantage slip as they comfortably held on to book their place in the last eight of the cup.

In truth, City actually seemed the more likely winners from the very off following a fierce and committed opening to the game by the Bantams.

Parkinson said: "From the very first minute today (Sunday), we played with great determination, great endeavour and we were the first to every ball - we played with a real 'underdog' mentality.

"We got off to a great start with the early goal and then proceeded to make it as difficult an afternoon as we could for Sunderland. You have to do that in cup ties, especially when there is such a gulf in class between the two sides.

"We wanted to start the game quicky, get on the front foot, get in their faces and make it as uncomfortable as possible for them.

"On the back off that, we also played some terrific football on a difficult surface.

"The second goal gives us that breathing space and we managed to kill off the game really well in the later stages.

"We've had a fantastic recent record against Premier League clubs, and today is another terrific occasion for our fans to enjoy.

"The atmosphere around the ground was amazing - the boys were really reveling in it."

Following Sunday's Sunderland win, City now can look forward to Monday's quarter final draw and then a return to Sky Bet League 1 action at Leyton Orient on Wednesday.

Parkinson added: "We'd like another home draw. The way the atmosphere was today, I'd love the opportunity for the players to sample that again.

"It would be great for the people of Bradford as well. Any draw at this stage would be a good draw for us but to get a tie at home would mean another great day for us.

"We know we are one game away from Wembley now and it is going to take some playing down.

"We have a game on Wednesday at Leyton Orient and we know our focus must quickly move towards that.

"Having said that, this run is great for everyone connected with the football club. We are all enjoying every minute of it.

"It is great to have everyone talking about Bradford."
