STEAD SAVOURS SUPERB CHELSEA TRIUMPH

26 January 2015

City striker Jon Stead says there was always belief in the Bantams' dressing room that they could go to Stamford Bridge and achieve something special.

Putting in a display that Bantams boss Phil Parkinson would later describe as a 'Premier League performance', Stead scored once and set up a further two as City stunned a nation by coming from two goals down against Chelsea to sensationally knock the Premier League leaders out of the F.A Cup.

The victory understandably meant City were the talk of the country over the weekend and led many to discuss whether it merited the title of 'the greatest F.A Cup shock of all time'.

Regardless of whether it earns that tag or not, the stunning Stamford Bridge win will surely go down as one of the most memorable cup victories City has ever produced.

Despite the odds being heavily against City though as they arrived to play Jose Mourinho's all-stars, Stead says Parkinson's men were confident they could do themselves proud against the seven-time F.A Cup winners.

Stead said: "Football has a habit of throwing up shocks - certainly in the F.A Cup - and this has to be right up there as one of the biggest of all time.

"We are still pinching ourselves really - it hasn't sunk in properly yet I don't think.

"To beat the best team in the country at their own ground is just incredible.

"We always had the belief in the dressing room that we could do something though.

"We wanted to go into this tie and give it a real go. Play our football and see what we could achieve from the game.

"That was our attitude - there was genuine belief that we could do something here.

"No one fancied us before the game but we had a game-plan and we stuck to it by the letter.

"We have won this game on merit. We have scored four great goals and played some great stuff and created scoring chances.

"I am really happy with my all-round performance. And to get a goal as well just topped it all off for me."
