Bantams defender Rory McArdle believes everything has gone to plan for City so far as they head towards the end of their first week back in pre-season training.

Under the instruction of City's coaching staff, McArdle and his Bantams team-mates have been carefully guided back into the rigours of training ground work after eight weeks away during the close season.

As with virtually all clubs at this time of the year, the key during the first stages of pre-season is always to try and get the players as fit as they can without straining them too hard and risking unnecessary early injuries.

Entering into his fourth season as a City player, McArdle reckons the club's backroom personnel, including Head of Sports Performance Nick Allamby, manage to strike that balance just right by planning appropriately.

McArdle, who was one of four City players to get married over the summer, said: "It has been good so far.

"Gone are the days when you get run into the ground and pick up injuries early doors. Everything is controlled now and Nick (Allamby, Head of Sports Performance) knows what he is doing.

"This is my fourth pre-season at Bradford with Nick and everything is usually spot-on in terms of the work we do and the level of fitness he gets us at.

"The two new lads have settled in well. Steve (Davies) has that experience of playing at a higher level and I remember Josh (Morris) playing well against us a couple of times for Fleetwood last season.

"We have a good set of honest lads here and they know the running that has to be done at this time of year."
