PARKINSON PLEASED WITH MOTHERWELL PERFORMANCE

15 July 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson was pleased with his side's work for the afternoon after seeing City make it two wins out of two in pre-season following victory over Motherwell.

In the first of two games for City during their stay in Scotland, Parkinson's men built on Saturday's win over Farsley Celtic by defeating the Scottish Premiership side thanks to goals from trialist Greg Leigh, Alan Sheehan and James Hanson.

Following the win at Grangemouth Stadium, City are now due to play at St Mirren this Saturday (18 July 2015) before returning to Bradford.

Parkinson said: "This was a good game for us. I thought physically we looked in a good place - that was really pleasing.

"Motherwell have just been on tour in Holland and played two competitive games over there so they are probably ahead of us slightly in terms of their preparations for the new season.

"They (Motherwell) had a strong team out and I thought our first half team in particular acquitted themselves really well considering we had just throw the side together in training.

"We got the lead just before half time, and I was pleased with the group's performance at the start of the second half as well.

"They didn't waste that first fifteen minutes before we made the substitutions. The effort they have put in today (Tuesday) will benefit them greatly.

"The lads who came on after that then showed some real quality when the game became a bit more stretchered."

The only low note to come from Tuesday's friendly win over Motherwell was the unfortunate injury suffered to first year pro Joe Brennan.

Brennan appeared to twist his knee awkwardly after getting his studs caught in the turf while trying to tackle Motherwell attacker Ross MacLean.

Parkinson added: "We don't know the full extent of the injury yet but he has twisted his knee. We will send him back to Bradford tonight and get him assessed by the specialist tomorrow (Wednesday).

"It is a real shame for Joe because he has growth in confidence within the squad this pre-season. It is a real down-point on the day for us.

"That is the pit-falls of a footballer unfortunately - you are always only one twist of the knee or one bad tackle away from an injury. Poor Joe seems to have sustained a bad one today unfortunately."
