DAVIES BACK IN CONTENTION

27 March 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson has revealed that influential defender Andrew Davies is back in contention for a starting berth when Oldham Athletic travel to the Coral Windows Stadium this Saturday.

Davies has missed City's last three matches after damaging his arm during the first period of the recent away fixture at Coventry City but the centre half is now back in full training.

With Alan Sheehan joining Peterborough United on loan this Thursday, Davies is now expected to do battle with giant Scot Gary MacKenzie for a place alongside Rory McArdle in central defence against Oldham.

Parkinson confirmed: "Davo (Andrew Davies) is back. He has been training with us this week and training well.

"Obviously with Andrew, the concern was that the injury was on the same arm that he broke earlier this season.

"We were thorough in our investigation, more really to put Davo's mind at rest. There was pain in there for Andrew but nothing that would case long-term damage.

"Dava is keen now to get back on with things. He has been frustrated about not playing recently but he is ready once again."

Following the departure of Sheehan to Peterborough, Parkinson was quick to bolster his ranks once again with the loan signing of the versatile Tony McMahon from Championship side Blackpool.

McMahon, like Davies, is likely to be in contention for a place in City's starting eleven against Oldham.

Parkinson added: "We are pleased to add Tony to the squad.

"With Alan Sheehan, he had been unlucky on a number of occasions this season where I've had to let him know he wasn't in the team and he wanted to go somewhere and play.

"Tony coming here in the opposite direction gives us options so we think this is the best for all parties.

"Tony has played most of his football at right back but he can play left back, centre back, central midfield or right midfield.

"He is a real utility player and he comes in and adds extra competition to the squad."
