WE LET THEM OFF THE HOOK

14 March 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson says he was encouraged by his side's display at Notts County this Saturday - but he was also left with a tinge of disappointment that City couldn't convert their match dominance into three points.

Following Jon Stead's opener on the stroke of half time, Parkinson's men enjoyed a number of opportunities to double their lead after the break but they were forced to settle for a point thanks to Mike Edwards' equaliser for the the hosts fourteen minutes from the end.

Parkinson said: "We let them off the hook really today (Saturday). We had them on the ropes in the second half in particular.

"We've had four or five great chances, included one that we feel may have crossed the line but the linesman didn't give it.

"When you have that many chances and that dominance in the game though, you need to finish things off. A second goal would have killed the game off really.

"That has allowed them one moment to equalise through a header from a corner, and that has cost us.

"I can't ask for anything more from the lads, however, apart from the missed chances.

"It was a really good performance from us this afternoon - probably one of our best away from home recently.

"The lads who came in were excellent and we go into Monday in good spirits."

With one eye on Monday's FA Cup Quarter Final replay at Reading, Parkinson made six changes for his side's match at Meadow Lane.

With the likes of Matthew Dolan, Gary MacKenzie and Francois Zoko all catching the eye, Parkinson reckons City's positive display against County was further evidence of the strength of the group.

Parkinson said: "There were very few performances out there that weren't promising.

"Matty Dolan was excellent in midfield and Chris Routis continued to grow in that role.

"It isn't the role he is most used to but we are trying to find a position for him in the set-up because he has so many attributes to his game.

"We want to get more from him between now and the end of the season.

"Zoko was superb for his assist for Jon with the goal and he was involved in some great chances. We only brought him off because the referee said he was one tackle away from being sent off.

"The efforts of all of the lads since the Crawley game has been impressive and it has really improved the togetherness of the squad.

"There is no-one in the squad we don't have faith in - there genuinely is places up for grabs at the moment.

"We have players in the squad who have had a period of inactivity and you can see they have a real hunger to get a shirt now. That has to bode well for the rest of the season.

"Everybody in our squad can do a job for the team."
