WE WILL MOVE ON FROM CUP HURT

17 March 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson knows City have plenty to be proud and plenty still to play for, despite Monday's FA Cup quarter-final replay defeat at the hands of Championship side Reading.

Early goals from Reading duo Hal Robson-Kanu and Garath McCleary put the Royals in the driving seat before Jamie Mackie's well-taken strike in the second period finished off a Bradford side that played the last half an hour or so with only ten men due to Filipe Morais' red card.

The disappointing cup loss ends the Bantams' interest in the FA Cup for another season after eight ties, nineteen goals scored and some life-long memories, such as the stunning victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the Reading replay loss, Parkinson was keen to stress the importance of acknowledging City's achievements throughout their amazing cup run.

With the Bantams also only three points outside the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Offs with a game in hand at present, the City chief also knows that the club still have plenty to fight for following their FA Cup exit.

Parkinson: "We have to be immensely proud of what we have achieved in this competition.

"Obviously tonight (Monday) is tough to take, we wanted to progress and we had a great support cheering us on, but we have to quickly move on.

"Reflecting on what we have accomplished, we have so many great memories from this season's FA Cup.

"We can take that with us for the rest of the season and beyond.

"We have eleven games to go in the league and we must look to that now.

"No-one in the league, apart from Sheffield United earlier in the season, has had to deal with the amount of high profile games we've had recently.

"The lads have done terrifically well with it all, however, and we're going to have a good go at things now we have a clear run in the league.

"There is quality in our squad and the determination to put tonight's disappointment behind us."

Speaking about the replay itself, Parkinson admits City's slow start at the Madejski Stadium left them with it all to do.

Parkinson added: "Reading were the better side on the night and we've given ourselves a mountain to climb in the first ten minutes.

"Conceding two goals so early on clearly deflated us and it gave a side who had been rested on Saturday a huge spring in their step.

"We found it difficult to respond thereafter.

"We came up against a side who played really well, and starting poorly ourselves certainly didn't help matters.

"As you progress through the cup competitions as a lower league side though, there is always the chance that if you have a bad day, it will be a really bad day and you will get punished by higher class opposition.

"The lads were deflated on the pitch and we couldn't wait to get them in the dressing room for half time. Obviously Filipe has got sent off in the second half though and it was always just damage limitation after that.

"We must give Reading credit. They played exceptionally well on the night and we wish them all the very best in their semi final against Arsenal."
