HARD WORK PAYING OFF FOR MORAIS

22 May 2015

City's flying winger Filipe Morais insists he will be fighting fit and ready for the start of pre-season after a frustrating end to his 2014/2015 campaign.

After injuring his knee back in February at Leyton Orient, Morais spent the rest of the season trying to find a balancing act between playing through the pain and also recovering from the problem.

Eventually both Morais and City admitted defeat, with the Portguese attacker missing the club's last four fixtures of the season in a bid to finally rid him of the injury.

While the rest of his team-mates have been starting their well-earned off-season break, Morais has been down at the club's Apperley Bridge training ground this month with club physio Chris Royston being put through his paces.

With the player now finally preparing to go on his own summer holidays soon, Morais is glad that his extra work appears to have paid off, and he is confident he will be firing on all cylinders come the return to training in July.

Morais said: "Since February really, the injury has been niggling at me but we were going for the Play-Offs and I was trying to put it to the back of my mind.

"That is the way it is in football sometimes, you have to play through injuries when you are trying to achieve things.

"It isn't about me, it was about the team though. I tried to help them the best I could during the end of the season.

"I tried to play with it the best I could but I didn't want it niggling away any longer so I'm doing what it takes to make sure I am 100% for pre-season.

"Since the last few weeks of the season when we decided to completely sort out the injury, I've been in most days really.

"It has been good because it has been nice to feel how the knee is now.

"To be playing not at your best - being held back because of an injury - isn't obviously ideal. I am just happy now that it feels good.

"Injuries are part and parcel of being a footballer though. It happens, and it is all about me being professional, getting this sorted now, and making sure it doesn't hinder me in the future.

"I just want to start next season on top form and with no feelings in my knee, and that is where I am at now which is a good feeling.

"My knee is better and I can look forward once again to performing at my best next season."

Having sampled the memorable atmosphere at the Coral Windows Stadium in his debut season with the club, Morais is hoping he play in front of some bumper home crowds again during the forthcoming campaign thanks to the club's amazing season ticket deal.

Morais added: "When I saw the (season ticket) price online, I couldn't believe it!

"We already had really cheap season tickets, I just really couldn't believe they put it down £50.00 again.

"With the children incentives as well, it must be really great for the City fans who are looking to get a season ticket.

"It is now even more affordable for them, and it gives them another opportunity to watch us and support us in their numbers as they already do.

"If we can get 15,000, which I believe is the target, then that would be unbelievable.

"The help and the drive it gives the players when we see a packed stadium is very important."
