PARKINSON PLEASED WITH PROFESSIONAL FINISH

3 May 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson was pleased with the attutide and application of his players as City finished off the season with an away win at Crewe Alexandra - their ninth victory on the road this campaign.

Billy Clarke's match-winner midway into the first half - his fourteenth goal of the season - was enough to ensure Parkinson's men ended up in seventh place in the Sky Bet League 1 table - City's highest end-of-season position in the football pyramid since 2004.

City's final day victory was all the more impressive given the relegation-threatened hosts' ever increasing need for an equaliser in the second period due to results elsewhere.

In the end, late goals from Gillingham in their match against Notts County kept the Railwaymen up and instead demoted the Magpies down into League 2 for next season.

Parkinson said: "It was a strong, professional performance from us in testing conditions.

"Ben (Williams) has made one good save but I don't think Crewe gave us too many problems in the second half. We also had chances at the other end to extend our lead.

"In the end, we've had to show some resiliency because Crewe had so much at stake today (Sunday) - they threw caution to the wind in the second half.

"Since losing to Bristol City, to take eight points from the last four games is a real credit to the players' attitude.

"We had to block out what was happening for Crewe because we had own our motivation for the game.

"After our Play-Off dream slipped away from us, we wanted to then try and better what we had achieved last season. We also wanted that highest finish in eleven years for the club.

"I am so pleased we have achieved that - it takes us into the summer in good spirits."

With another season now over following the win at Crewe, City supporters should be able to look back over the campaign with some pleasure.

Having become the only side so far this season to beat newly-crowned Premier League champions Chelsea at home on their way to the F.A Cup quarter finals, plus memorably defeating near neighbours Leeds United at the Coral Windows Stadium, this Sunday's seventh-placed league finish means the 2014/2015 campaign will certainly be one to remember for Parkinson's men.

Parkinson said: "As a manager and a supporter, you always want that little bit more from a season but we have to be pleased.

"On reflection, with the extra games and the extra demands on the lads and playing on a heavy pitch at home, the lads really have been superb this season.

"I thank them all for their professionalism in training every day. We have played for 99% of the season in the spirit and the manner we want to be known for.

"I think the supporters can appreciate that and they have given us great backing again today."
