Sky Bet League 1
Saturday 24 October 2015

Attendance: 19,171 (1,296 visitors)

An equaliser from the recalled James Hanson was enough to earn Phil Parkinson's Bantams a creditable point against promotion hopefuls Wigan Athletic at the Coral Windows Stadium.

City fell behind early in the second period through Michael Jacobs' strike but Hanson, who came in for the injured Steven Davies, pounced ten minutes later to head home Tony McMahon's corner.

After two set-piece goals during the win over Bury in midweek, it was no surprise that Hanson's leveller had come from a McMahon corner following a number of earlier threatening deliveries from the midfielder.

City had a penalty appeal turned down in the first period when Rory McArdle appeared to be barged into by Max Power as the defender went to contest another McMahon corner, whilst Hanson saw his goal-bound header from a further set-piece headed over the bar by Chris McCann barely a minute later.

With a talented Wigan outfit enjoying good spells of possession through the game though, a point could be seen as a good result for Parkinson's side.

Yanic Wlidschut and Jacobs both went close for the visitors with strikes in the first period. After Hanson's header had restored parity in the game, Latics substitute Grant Holt forced a save from Ben Williams later in the half.

The point extends City's unbeaten run to four games.

53min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Wigan Athletic 1 - Jacobs has the ball in the net to give the visitors the lead. A loose touch from Evans gives Love a chance to run towards City's penalty area. The Latics substitute lays the ball off to Jacobs just outside the box and the attacker powers a drive past Williams. 40min: Grigg has the ball in the net after being played into space in the area behind City's back-line but the flag had already gone up for offside long before he struck home.
33min: A slightly mis-placed pass from Burke inside his own box means McArdle has to stretch for the ball and play it against Wildschut for a goal-kick to get rid of any possible danger.
26min: Jacobs' free-kick effort for goal shortly afterwards following Darby's caution deflects off his own team-mate Grigg and behind for a goal-kick.

20min: Another threatening McMahon corner delivery sees McArdle appealing for a push in the box but referee Mr Clark is not interested at all and no penalty is given.
18min: As City keep the pressure on following a couple of corners, McMahon's teasing in-swinging cross into the box from open play is vitally headed behind by Donervon Daniels with Hanson threatening to pounce.
17min: Tony McMahon's near post corner delivery is met by Lee Evans, who sees his diving header deflect narrowly wide off Barnett.
16min: James Meredith loses the ball to Jacobs in a threatening position and McArdle has to be alert to making a sliding intercept to prevent the attacker's low cross finding a lurking Will Grigg in the box.
15min: Power lets rip with an effort from distance that Williams watches go just over his bar.
15min: A short corner routine from the following Wigan set-piece eventually sees Reece James fire in a fizzing cross-come-shot from the byline that Williams has to push over.

5min: YELLOW CARD - Max Power is booked for a late lunge on Rory McArdle deep inside City's half as the Bantams defender cleared the ball upfield.
2min: Kyel Reid's low cross towards the near post looks to be going into the gloves of Jussi Jaaskelainen but Leon Barnett appears to get in the way, giving Devante Cole a sniff of winning back the ball right in front of goal. Wigan eventually clear their lines, however, and they are on the attack themselves shortly afterwards. The dangerous Yanic Wildschut drives into the box and runs at an exposed Reece Burke before firing low into the side-netting by Ben Williams' near post.
