PARKINSON TARGETING CUP PROGRESSION

5 October 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson says he will be targeting progression into the next round for the Bantams this Tuesday when City open up their Johnstone's Paint Trophy campaign at home to Barnsley.

After receiving a bye in the first round of this season's competition, Parkinson's men welcome their fellow Sky Bet League 1 side to the Coral Windows Stadium for a second round Yorkshire derby.

With James Meredith, Reece Burke and Lee Evans all on international duty at the moment, Parkinson is guaranteed to make changes for the Barnsley JPT tie.

Further alterations could be in the pipeline as well but Parkinson is still hopeful Tuesday night could be the start of a successful run in the competition for his side.

Parkinson said: "After getting a bye in the first round, we can't really complain about getting a home tie in this round either.

"We have already played Barnsley this season and it was a keenly-fought affair.

"We know they tend to have played with a 4-5-1 system this season which means there will be times when they have spells of possession and we have to be patient during those periods.

"We have some players away on international duty at the moment so the tie will give some of the other lads a chance to stake a claim.

"As we know ourselves, some of these earlier round matches can seem like low-key affairs in front of smaller crowds than normal.

"It is the teams who get their attitude and application right in these early matches that usually progress.

"This is a competition that can quickly become very exciting for those involved, especially when you get to the latter stages. A trip to Wembley for a final can certainly never be ignored.

"We want to progress in this competition, and we will be doing all we can on the night to get into round three."
