Attendance: 17,873 (531 visitors)

City made it three wins on the trot to charge up to fifth in the Sky Bet League 1 table thanks to 'super sub' Steven Davies' instant impact off the bench.

Less than forty seconds after coming on, Davies pounced to net the all-important winner for Phil Parkinson's men with his first touch on the field of play midway through the second period.

After fellow substitute James Hanson and Scunthorpe defender David Mirfin had challenged for a James Meredith throw-in, the ball dropped invitingly for Davies and the striker fired past Luke Daniels with a cushioned finish from close range.

The goal - Davies' fifth of the season - was enough to claim City's fifth victory in their last six games and their fourth home win on the bounce.

On top of the crowd-pleasing victory, the home support was also treated to the sight of Filipe Morais coming off the bench towards the end of the game for his first action of the season following a serious knee injury last summer.

Perhaps not at their best in the first period, City were grateful to a fine double block deep inside the box by skipper Stephen Darby to deny Scunthorpe duo Hakeeb Adelakun and Paddy Madden.

Madden was also denied by Ben Williams after an angled drive from inside the box less than a minute earlier but City themselves also threatened during the half through efforts from Kyel Reid and the recalled Lee Evans.

Following Davies' opener, Scunthorpe tried to press for an leveller but City actually came closest to adding to the scoring for the afternoon.

Tony McMahon fired wide from inside the box after being teed up by Hanson while Davies saw a goal disallowed six minutes from the end due to handball.

With time running out, Evans and Morais had shots from outside the box saved by Daniels. The Portuguese winger then teed up Davies with a teasing cross deep in injury time but the striker's header was also repelled by the Scunthorpe shot-stopper.

34min: What defending from Darby! The defender is alert enough firstly to kick clear as Adelakun dangerously drives the ball across the box. The danger isn't over yet as Madden looks to fire in but Darby is somehow able to kick away the goal-bound effort before it can cross the line!
34min: Hakeeb Adelakun plays Madden into space inside the area following a bright attack forward by Scunthorpe but the attacker's angled drive across goal is repelled by Ben Williams.
33min: Getting the back from his own throw-in, Nathan Clarke sends a testing cross into the box. Daniels elects to punch and the ball drops down to Reid, who powerfully volleys for goal and his fierce effort from inside the area has to be blocked by behind for a corner by Jordan Clarke.
31min: On the break, Madden surges forward into City's penalty area but his eventual cross-come-shot from inside the box is blocked behind by Burke.
28min: Nathan Clarke's long throw-in into the box is met by Evans, who heads the ball down into the mix. Josh Cullen is first onto the ball as it drops down just inside the box but he has to hurry his shot due to pressure from Bishop and the midfielder's first time effort flashes harmlessly over the bar.
26min: McMahon's teasing cross into the box is met by the head of Jamie Proctor but his effort for goal bounces off Mirfin and out for a corner to City.
