MARSHALL RARING TO GO

5 August 2016

After an encouraging pre-season, City winger Mark Marshall says he is looking forward to expressing himself further in the new campaign.

The 29 year old will come up against one of his former employers, Port Vale, this weekend when the Bantams kick off their 2016/2017 Sky Bet League One season at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

The Jamaican-born winger had a hand in four of City's goals during their summer friendlies, and the all-action attacker is keen to transfer that form into the Bantams' league matches.

Marshall said: "I’m definitely happy with how my pre-season has gone, I’ve been getting involved and have created a few goals so far.

"The style of play that the gaffer has implemented suits my game, he wants us to get the ball down and pass, and he’s given me the chance to go and express myself, which I always enjoy doing.

"I’m not going to sit here and make it sound like he only wants to pass the ball, tactically, he’s aware that sometimes you’ve got to put the ball in behind and stretch teams.

"One thing I’ve always based myself on is my ability to do what I do. I’m a firm believer in my ability and once I get the opportunity, I’ll produce.

"Every opportunity the gaffer gives me, I will do my best to take.

"It’s always nice when you’re told to express yourself and to go and enjoy playing football, I guess you don’t need more reassurance than that.

"I’ve got to work hard on maintaining my standards because there’s always competition for place.

"I’m going to work my socks off, because you’re not going to gain anything without hard work, and hopefully my hard work will pay off with some good performances.

"I had a great year at Port Vale and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, the fans, the management staff and the chairman treated me very well.

"Obviously on Saturday I’m fully focused on Bradford City and getting three points for Bradford City, but I wish them all the best for the season after that."
