Bantams boss Stuart McCall says his squad are raring to go ahead of Saturday's eagerly-anticipated season opener with Port Vale at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

City kick off their 2016/2017 campaign at the weekend by entertaining Vale in McCall's first official game back in charge of the club since returning as manager in June.

McCall believes City will be prepared as best they can be going into the first game of the new season but he is still wary of the potential threat posed by the Bantams' visitors.

He said: "We are naturally all excited by the prospect of Saturday.

"The whole group cannot wait to get started.

"We want to start on the front-foot and be as positive as possible throughout the game.

"Obviously the main thing on Saturday is the result but we also want fans excited to come back for more in the following weeks.

"We know that we have certain areas of the squad that still need strengthening but the lads will be ready and prepared for the weekend.

"We are under no illusions as to how challenging this season will be.

"I believe the vast majority of teams in the division this year will have ambitions of at least making the Play-Offs.

"Port Vale have brought a large number of new players in over the summer. I have watched them a couple of times over pre-season and they will certainly carry a threat.

"They seem to be playing well together as a group and they have put in some competitive performances against good sides in recent weeks.

"We're expecting a difficult game but, as always, our main focus will be on ourselves and on how well we can play.

"I've said it a number of times before, a game of football last the full 90 minutes and we will need the players and fans to go from the very first whistle until the last."
