McCALL DELIGHTED WITH SECOND HALF COMEBACK

22 August 2016

Bantams boss Stuart McCall was delighted with the character and mental strength shown by his players after the Bantams came from behind to defeat Coventry City 3-1 at the Northern Commercials Stadium this Saturday.

Following an out-of-sorts display in the opening period, City found themselves trailing the break but a strong second half showing helped McCall's men roar back for victory thanks to three unanswered goals.

McCall said: "This result is a really positive one for us, especially concerning the first half showing.

"All credit to Coventry, they were terrific in that opening period.

"It took us twenty to twenty five minutes before we got going. We were tried to play out from our own half - maybe in the wrong areas - and we realised we had to alter things.

"It was good to get the lads to half time and go through a few changes we wanted to make.

"Individually and collectively, the second half was a lot more like us.

"We played really well and showed a lot of character.

"We were clearly very disappointed with the first half performance but the pleasing thing is that we've won a game that at the break it looked like we might not.

"The lads upped their game in the second half and they deserve a lot of credit for that."

The only downside to come from City's success over Coventry at the weekend was the injury suffered by Tony McMahon.

McMahon, who netted two penalties in the second half fight-back, limped off in the latter stages of the match with a suspected tear in his thigh muscle.

McCall added: "It looks like he could be out for a long time with a thigh problem.

"He got a knock earlier in the match which probably started a little bleed in the side of his thigh. He's then gone to cross the ball late on and his muscle had tightened up and it looks like there could be a significant tear in there.

"This is hugely disappointing news because he has been terrific for us. People will remember his two penalties, but his all-important tackle on Kyel Reid when the score was still 0-1 was also crucial."
