Fresh from their victory at Peterborough United on Saturday, two goals from Josh Cullen and Billy Clarke gave Stuart McCall's men a sizeable advantage with less than twenty minutes on the clock.

Cullen's opener - his first goal in senior football - came after the midfielder reacted quickly to prod home from close range after a shot from Mark Marshall had caused panic in the Dons' defence.

The Bantams doubled their lead just five minutes later when Clarke crashed in a superb drive from outside the box.

Things could have got even better for McCall's side seven minutes before the break but Marshall was denied by a brilliant goal-saving block from Paul Downing after Tony McMahon's low centre had been pushed out by home 'keeper David Martin.

After producing a patient and purposeful attacking display in the opening half, City had to show a different side to their game in the second period as Karl Robinson's side piled on the pressure.

MK Dons hit the woodwork shortly before the hour mark when Ed Upson's crashed a low drive from outside the box against the base of Colin Doyle's far post.

Dean Lewington then headed onto the roof of Doyle's net from a Upson wide free-kick delivery later in the half.

MK Dons continued to dominate possession as time passed by but McCall's men remained resolute, proving hard to break down as the hosts became more and more frustrated.

The Dons did manage to get a goal back deep into injury time when Upson pounced from close range after Downing had headed against the crossbar but City weren't to be denied.

66min: Lewington heads onto the roof of Doyle's net following Upson's free-kick into the box from a wide position.

64min: Upson's resulting effort on goal direct from the following free-kick hits off the Bantams wall and behind for a corner. 

63min: YELLOW CARD - Nathaniel Knight-Percival is booked just outside the box after bringing down George C Williams as the MK Dons attacker looked to move towards the Bantams area.

61min: MK Dons see a decent penalty shout turned down when Marshall appears to possibly knock down Lewington from behind as the defender moved forward inside the box. City hold their collective breath but referee Mr Haines allows play to continue.

58min: Baldock runs forward into space before firing in a drive from distance that goes wide.

57min: MK Dons hit the post! Baldock sets up Upson for a shot from outside the box and the midfielder's low angled drive hits the base of Doyle's far post before Vincelot puts behind for a corner.

56min: Doyle is able to watch George C Williams' low curling drive from outside the area go a yard or so wide of his goal.

52min: The resulting corner eventually drops into the path of George C Williams but his effort on the half-volley from the edge of the area is held at the second attempt by Doyle.

52min: Vincelot is alert enough deny Agard a clear sight of goal after Upson's clever through-ball had threaten to play the MK Dons striker in behind, the Frenchman doing just enough to bundle the ball behind.

49min: Powell's dangerous low centre misses everyone in the middle before Cullen makes a vital tackle to block George C Williams' shot behind for a corner.

42min: Billy Clarke neatly plays Marshall into space down City's right wing. Marshall moves forward before cutting in field and firing in a low curling strike from outside the area that is comfortably held by Martin.

40min: Lewington passes in field to Nicky Maynard but the striker's effort from just outside the box goes wide.

38min: Marshall denied by a superb block from Paul Downing! McMahon's low centre into the six yard box is pushed out by Martin but only as far the lurking Marshall roughly eight yards out. The Bantams winger looks set to smash home but his effort is somehow blocked by an outstanding diving tackle from Downing!

36min: Ed Upson's corner delivery into the box is cleared as far as the lurking George C Williams just outside but the attacker's first time effort flashes harmlessly wide.

22min: Marshall finds Hiwula in space out wide, the attacker drives into the box and his eventual low drive is easily held by Martin.

19min: Dean Lewington tries his luck from outside the area and his strike takes a touch off Vincelot before flashing past Colin Doyle's goal.

14min: Following period of pressure from City, Cullen tees up Marshall inside the area but the winger's angled drive while under pressure flashes wide of Martin's near post.

10min: Marshall produces a neat turn to get away from two MK Dons players before playing Billy Clarke into space just wide of the penalty area. The Irishman steps into the box before curling a strike straight at David Martin.

8min: Following a period of neat passing from the Bantams, James Meredith crosses into the box and an alert Powell has to put behind to deny Mark Marshall a shooting chance from close range.

3min: After robbing Daniel Powell of the ball earlier following a dangerous run from the MK Dons man, Romain Vincelot is once again in the right position to deny the home winger after he'd sprinted clear past Tony McMahon and into the box.

1min: Virtually straight from the kick off, Kieran Agard plays George C Williams into space down City's right flank. Williams advances into the area before firing the ball low across the six yard box and out for a goal kick.
