BANGLA BANTAMS SCOOP FANS FOR DIVERSITY ACCOLADE

9 December 2016

It was a night of celebration at the start of this week for Bangla Bantams after they were named as winners of the inaugural Fans For Diversity award at the Football Supporters' Federation Awards in London.

Bangla Bantams beat off competition from five other supporters' groups on Monday night to clinch the award following their outstanding work promoting inclusion within the Bradford community.

Fans For Diversity is a jointly funded-programme between Kick It Out and FSF, supporting fans throughout the country in creating a range of initiatives aimed at increasing the diversity of the match going fanbase, spreading the message of anti-discrimination, and ensuring clubs are more representative of the communities in which they are based.

Co-founder Humayun Islam collected the award on behalf of Shapla FC and Bangla Bantams, which was presented by Roisin Wood, Director of Kick It Out.

The Bangla Bantams and Shapla FC were formed to help the local South Asian Community in the Bradford area promote and increase sports participation for both boys and girls.

Since forming Bangla Bantams have forged a strong relationship with Bradford City.

After receiving the award, Humayun was keen to thank the FSF's Diversity and Campaigns Manager, Anwar Uddin for 'going the extra mile' to support fan groups throughout the country through the fans for diversity initiative.
