16 December 2016

WALSALL (AWAY) - Sky Bet League One, Saturday 17 December 2016, kick off 3:00pm, Banks's Stadium

City will play their final fixture before Christmas (and last away game of 2016) this Saturday when they travel to Walsall for their first Sky Bet League One match on the road in three weeks.

The Bantams, perhaps harshly, lost their last two away matches at Southend United and Swindon Town respectively, and Stuart McCall's men will be keen to rediscover their winning form at the Banks's Stadium.

Walsall go into Saturday's encounter with McCall's side currently in 16th place in the League One table - six points off the play-off spots and seven points ahead of the relegation zone.

The Saddlers lost at Fleetwood Town last time out in the league, although they did recently secure an impressive shock victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Walsall's last home league match ended in a goalless draw with play-off chasing Southend United.

Team News

Saddlers boss Jon Whitney is likely to make a number of changes for this Saturday after resting players for Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy tie with Oldham Athletic.

Defender James O'Connor, midfielder Adam Chambers and playmaker Erhun Oztumer were all rested for the 3-1 home defeat to the Latics, while the likes of goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and midfielder Joe Edwards were named on the bench.

All five players are expected to come back into Whitney's starting XI for the visit of the Bantams.

Florent Cuvelier, Isaiah Osbourne and Simeon Jackson will be pushing hard to stay in the team, however, after being recalled for the Oldham Checkatrade Trophy tie.

Winger Kieron Morris has missed the Saddlers' last two games with an ankle injury and is probably going to be a doubt for this weekend as a result.

Reece Flanagan continues on his road to recovery following a serious knee injury picked up towards the end of last season.

Maziar Kouhyar is also sidelined at present with a knee injury.

Along with the talented Oztumer, striker Amadou Bakayoko has also netted eight times for Walsall in all competitions so far this season.

Behind them in the scoring stakes, Jackson has grabbed five goals for the Saddlers.

Bradford City
Bantams boss Stuart McCall has confirmed that Billy Clarke is the only injury problem for City at present going into this Saturday's trip to Walsall.

Mark Marshall and Nicky Law have both been passed fit to travel despite picking up knocks during last weekend's goallless draw at home to Charlton Athletic.

Matthew Kilgallon is also expected to be part of City's travelling party to the Midlands after missing the Charlton game with a dead leg.

Previous Meetings
City narrowly lost out on their previous visit to the Banks's Stadium.

A goal in each half from Walsall proved enough to secure the hosts a 2-1 victory last November, despite the Bantams dominating the second period.

Tom Bradshaw opened the scoring in the first period for Walsall - the first goal City had conceded at that point in over seven games.

As City fought back after the break, a brilliant volley from Lee Evans drew them level but Milan Lalkovic snatched the winner for Walsall later in the half.

The Bantams drew 0-0 at Walsall at the beginning of the previous season - the 2014/2015 campaign.

City's first visit to Walsall following their promotion back up into League One in 2013 ended in a memorable 2-0 victory for the Bantams.

A simply stunning opening goal from Kyel Reid just before the break was added to by a strike from James Hanson early into the second period.
