McCALL AIMING TO END THE YEAR ON A WINNING NOTE

28 December 2016

Bantams boss Stuart McCall wants City to end the calendar year as they mean to start the new one - by turning recent draws into wins.

City play their final fixture of 2016 this Saturday (31 December) when they entertain Bury at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Monday's creditable goalless draw with league leaders Scunthorpe United was the third drawn fixture on the trot for McCall's men in Sky Bet League One.

With the 2016/2017 campaign now officially at the halfway stage, the Bantams have lost just three league games so far this season - only Scunthorpe themselves have suffered as few defeats.

City's tally of eleven draws, however, is the highest in the division - a figure that must bring some frustration to McCall and his players as the Bantams have arguably been worthy of victory in most of those encounters.

Using the Boxing Day stalemate with Scunthorpe - a game City controlled for large periods - as an example, McCall says that the Bantams are not far from getting back to winning ways, and they will be doing everything they can to achieve just that against Bury.

McCall said: "Our goalless draw with Scunthorpe was another slightly frustrating result for us.

"We weren’t quite able to break down a resilient Scunthorpe side, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying or good play.

"Our aim right from day one was to be competitive in every game, and I feel we have certainly done that over the course of the season so far.

"Our results against the other top teams in the division show that we have been competitive up to now but, as we have mentioned many times before, we need to start turning these draws into wins.

"That is definitely the aim for Saturday (vs Bury) and for the remainder of our league fixtures going into 2017.

"The lads will have prepared well for this fixture and they are eager to end 2016 on a high note.

"In general, we feel the fans will have been going home happy with our performances of late, but the players are really keen give them a victory this Saturday.

"We will be doing everything we can throughout the game to achieve that."
