PARKINSON PLEASED WITH DAVIES' IMPACT

18 February 2016

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson is happy to see Steven Davies pushing for a place in his starting line up.

After netting the winner at home to Fleetwood Town recently and scoring the fourth in City's thumping win at Peterborough United last Saturday, Davies capped off another impressive showing as a substitute by helping the Bantams secure all three points against Southend United on Tuesday night.

Davies was even there right in the action as he and James Hanson did enough to force the ball home via a deflection off Southend goalkeeper Daniel Bentley for City's second goal against the Shrimpers at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Wes Thomas has partnered Hanson in attack for City's last two fixtures but Parkinson admits to being pleased with Davies' impact off the bench in the last few games.

And with Billy Clarke returning to the bench on Tuesday after a recent hamstring problem and Jamie Proctor also waiting in the wings, Parkinson knows there is genuine competition for places in attack at the moment.

Parkinson said: "Davo (Steven Davies) came on and did well again on Tuesday night.

"He and Hans (James Hanson) have attacked the ball with real intent for our second goal.

"Steve did a good job at Peterborough last Saturday and he has done that a few times recently now.

"He is really breathing down the neck of the other strikers at the moment to get a starting place in the team.

"The competition we have up top is pushing the lads to a higher level."
