Emirates FA Cup Third Round
Saturday 9 January 2016

Attendance: 6,962 (3,489 visitors)

The Bantams battled their way into the Emirates FA Cup fourth round draw after a goalless draw with fellow Sky Bet League 1 side Bury.

At a rain-soaked Gigg Lane, City could have won the tie in injury time but a stretching James Hanson fired over from close range after Tony McMahon had fired across goal at pace.

Rory McArdle also threatened two minutes from the end of normal time when he sent a header just past the near post from a corner delivery.

Gary Liddle went close earlier in the half when he planted a free header wide from yards out following Kyel Reid's teasing cross.

Bury's best opening of the second period came in the ninetieth minute when Danny Mayor failed to bundle the ball home after Leon Clarke had squared across goal.

In a keenly-contest first half, McMahon hit the near post from a free-kick delivery while Bury's Andy Tutte was denied by a smart save from Ben Williams when one-on-one with the City 'keeper.

Along with a welcome clean-sheet and a place in the fourth round draw, another positive from the afternoon saw the welcome return of Josh Morris as a second half substitute after nearly four months out with a troublesome knee injury.

With City's supporters slightly out-numbering the amount of fans in the home stands, the tie saw the fairly unique situation of the Bantams, the away team, occupying both ends of the ground.

FT: Bury 0 Bradford City 0
90+3min: Hanson misses a great chance for City to surely win it! McMahon's driven strike across goal finds the out-stretched boot of Hanson but the striker can only fire over from barely yards out with the goal open.
90min: There will be five minutes of time added on at the end of the tie.
90min: Rose's header on from Lawlor's kick forward finds Leon Clarke in space inside the box. Clarke fires the ball across but Mayor is unable to bundle the ball home and Darby can kick away.
88min: McArdle attacks Morris' corner delivery with purpose but his thumping header goes wide of Bury's near post.
87min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Mark Marshall for Evans.
86min: Morris robs Tutte of the ball on the edge of Bury's penalty area before darting to the byline and firing in a low cross-come-shot that is repelled by the legs of Lawlor.
83min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Josh Morris for Reid.
79min: SUB - Bury take off first half replacement Lowe and introduce Danny Rose in his place.
77min: Evans dispossesses Tutte before driving forward and crossing into the box. The low centre finds James in space but his touch lets him down and Bury can clear.
76min: Cameron is left unmarked to head Hussey's far post delivery from a wide free-kick back across goal but City are in position to pick up the second ball and clear.
73min: Liddle misses a great chance to give City the lead! Reid crosses into the middle to find the midfielder completely unmarked but he can only head wide of goal from roughly six yards out. Hanson seems to have picked a bloody nose during that attack as he wrestled to keep the attack alive following McMahon's initial delivery into the area.
70min: Mayor tries to play Leon Clarke through on goal with only Williams to beat but the striker is flagged for offside. Williams saves with his legs regardless, however, to deny the Bury striker.
69min: YELLOW CARD - Lowe is booked for a late tackle on Routis as the Frenchman won the battle for the ball just inside City's half of the pitch.
67min: SUB - The Bantams bring on Luke James for Billy Clarke.
65min: Brown's free-kick from just inside Bury's half into City's box is headed on by Leon Clarke but Darby is on hand to hook clear but Mayor can look to pounce from close range.
64min: SUB - With Riley struggling with an injury, Danny Pugh is brought on for the full back.
61min: Reid gets the better of Riley before whipping in a cross from the byline. Hanson stretches to just reach the ball but his header isn't goal-ward and Bury can clear.
56min: As McMahon's wide free-kick delivery is headed out of Bury's box, Reid picks up the loose ball over by the far side. His low cross into the six yard box is a testing one but it is just out of the reach of Billy Clarke but the near post and Lawlor can gather.
48min: Leon Clarke tries to chase down a hooked ball forward but last-man Routis does just enough to prevent him from getting to the ball inside the box and Williams is able to gather.
46min: The Bantams restart the tie.
HT: Bury 0 Bradford City 0
45+6min: Hanson stretches to reach McMahon's floated ball towards the far post but he can only bundle the ball out for a goal-kick from near the byline.
45+5min: Leon Clarke sends a downward header wide of Williams' far post from barely yards out following Hussey's quality delivery into the box. Clarke's blushes are spared slightly, however, by the linesman's flag for offside against the forward.
45min: Mainly due to Jones' unfortunate head injury midway through the first period, there will be six minutes added on before the interval.
44min: McMahon's swerving strike from distance is stopped by a watchful Lawlor.
42min: Mayor's teasing cross into the box is pushed away by Williams. Lowe puts the ball back into the mix over by the far side but Williams claims the centre.
42min: Evans' superb ball from distance picks out Billy Clarke just outside the box. Clarke's first touch is fantastic but a recovering Hussey is able to get back around in time to make the tackle as the striker looked to run clear into the box.
41min: City receive a let-off when Williams saves from Tutte as the midfielder bursts through on goal. Liddle's under-hit pass is intercepted by Mayor, who manages to pick out Tutte's run into the box. Tutte is through with only Williams to beat but the shot-stopper guesses right and pushes the midfielder's side-footed effort away.
39min: Billy Clarke's pass finds Reid in-field and the winger switches the ball onto his right foot before firing in a drive from just outside the box that is repelled by Lawlor.
37min: After helping James Meredith to wrestle control of possession around the halfway line, Kyel Reid bursts forward with the ball with real purpose and sets off towards Bury's penalty area. Reid's electric pace gets him away from two Bury players before he appears to be nudged over by Nathan Cameron just outside the area. Much to the annoyance of the Bantams bench though, referee Mr Rob Lewis allows play to continue.
33min: McMahon flicks the ball on from a kick forward before racing into the box to collect Hanson's lay-off. McMahon goes for goal first time but his lobbed effort on his right foot sails harmlessly high and wide.
32min: McMahon hits the post! The midfielder lines up to put the ball into the box from a wide free-kick but he instead strikes the base of Lawlor's near post as he attempts to beat the Bury shot-stopper. The ball breaks free in a crowd of players but Billy Clarke blasts over from deep inside the box.
25min: Stephen Darby's cross into the box is knocked down by Hanson but Lee Evans' left-footed strike inside the box is blocked.
20min: SUB - Bury bring on Ryan Lowe for the injured Jones. After four minutes of on-pitch treatment, Jones has been stretchered off and taken down the tunnel. Fingers crossed he is ok.
16min: The game has been stopped temporarily as Bury's medical staff attend to Craig Jones, who unfortunately appears to have suffered a nasty bang to his head while challenging for the ball.
15min: Chris Hussey's ball down the side looks to be heading into the clutches of Williams but Leon Clarke nips in to just beat him to it. Clarke, who is now positioned by the byline, cross the ball low into the middle but Routis is on hand to kick clear.
14min: YELLOW CARD - Hanson is booked for accidentally catching Reece Brown with a raised arm as the pair tangle for the ball in the air inside Bury's half of the pitch.
11min: After good hold up play to keep Routis at arms' length and retain possession, Clarke plays a one-two with Andy Tutte before driving into the box and curling an effort over Williams' bar.
10min: Joe Riley's teasing low cross into City's six yard box looks threatening but Ben Williams is able to dive on the ball ahead of the lurking Leon Clarke.
7min: Billy Clarke tries to take advantage of some uncertainty in the Bury defence but Shakers' debutant goalkeeper Ian Lawlor eventually kicks clear while under pressure from the Irishman.
6min: City enjoy a period of sustained pressure inside Bury's penalty area following Routis' cross into the box. Headers from Gary Liddle and Tony McMahon keep the attack alive before Bury can eventually scramble clear.
2min: Christopher Routis' floated ball into the box is headed down by Rory McArdle but James Hanson's first time effort on the half-volley is sliced high and wide of goal.
0min: Bury kick off the match. City will defend the end housing their own supporters in the first half (and attack to a stand full of their fans as well!)
