City-supporting mums are being encouraged to sign up to a new project which will support them to lead sport and fitness activities in their local communities.

Mums’ Team is looking for mums of all ages to become Mums’ Team leaders and take the first steps into leading and coaching sport.

Mums who sign up to the free project will attend a training programme and have access to funds to support their plans in getting others active.

They will also receive ongoing support and training from a team of Mums’ Team mentors, and will have the opportunity to go on to achieve formal coaching qualifications.

Helen Marney, director of operations at South Yorkshire Sport, which is running the project, said: “Mums’ Team is about giving mums the opportunity to build leadership and coaching skills, run activities and workouts with confidence and, most importantly, make exercise fun for others in their communities, families and friendship groups.

“We are looking for passionate mums of all ages and all walks of life who would like to take on a central role in leading sport and activity in the community and would like support to get there.

“Whether that’s by arranging a game of table tennis on their lunch break with colleagues, leading a few games with family and friends at the local park, coordinating a group power-walk with other mums before picking the kids up from school or getting the ladies coffee group up and active with badminton, we want to reach as many mums as possible and help them to become orchestrators of sporting activity for others.”

To join the project and join Mums’ Team, register and find out more at or contact West Yorkshire Sport on 0330 20 20 280.
