CITY KIT MAN COMPLETES CHARITY TREK

10 May 2016

After overcoming the odds, Bantams kit man John Duckworth successfully completed his mammoth charity trek from Southend to Bradford last week.

Following City's recent game against Southend United, John set off from the Shrimpers' Roots Hall ground on the Saturday evening to start the long walk back to the Coral Windows Stadium.

Roughly 211 miles later, John and three members of his Bantamstrek fundraising team - Emma and Mark Tillotson and Scott Merrifield - managed to make it back into Bradford the night before City's home game with Chesterfield a week later.

The foursome, along with support team member Terry Shackleton, then took part in a lap of appreciation around the Coral Windows Stadium ahead of the match against the Spireites on Sunday.

The group took on the incredible challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

As of last Sunday morning, their efforts had raised over £5,200 for Macmillan.

Speaking after the event, John said: "We were all suffering by the end but we kept each other going.

"If it wasn't for the people, we wouldn't do it. It is all worth the pain.

"Last time I looked we'd raised over £5,200 with money still to collect.

"It's for a great cause and putting a smile on people's faces is what it is all about."

Supporters can still donate via the Bantams Trek Just Giving page here; https://www.justgiving.com/BantamsTrek2016
