Bradford City 1 (Kilgallon 72)
Emirates FA Cup First Round
Saturday 5 November 2016

Attendance: 4,985 (299 visitors)

The Bantams were knocked out of this season's Emirates FA Cup following a disappointing home defeat to Sky Bet League Two side Accrington Stanley.

A goal in each half from the visitors condemned Stuart McCall's men to an early exit in the competition following a low-key and rather off-colour performance from City on the whole - arguably the first time that has happened this season.

After hitting the bar earlier in the first half, Accrington attacker Romauld Boco headed his side into the lead on the half hour mark from Sean McConville's cross.

City, who had seen a James Hanson header kicked clear from right in front of goal early on, nearly equalised six minutes later but Haris Vuckic saw a shot well saved by Stanley shot-stopper Elliot Parish after the Slovenian had worked a good scoring opportunity.

McCall made all three changes by the 62nd minute of the tie, including the half time introduction of Jordy Hiwula for Vuckic.

Buoyed by those changes, City did manage to level the scores midway through the second period when Matthew Kilgallon swooped for his first goal for the club via a deflected header from a Billy Clarke corner.

The Bantams failed to kick on from that boost, however, and it was in fact Accrington who retook the lead ten minutes from the end.

First goalscorer Boco set up Jordan Clark to crash home a fine angled drive past Colin Doyle and into the far bottom corner from just inside the box.

Timothee Dieng threatened with a shot-come-cross that flashed wide of the far post shortly afterwards but City struggled to prize open Accrington in the main thereafter.

The end of the game was delayed after Accrington striker Shay McCartan was stretchered off but City were unable to capitalise on the extended period of injury time.

90+5min: SUB - Unfortunately McCartan is having to be stretchered off, the attacker replaced by Steven Hewitt.
90+1min: There is a stoppage in play at the moment as McCartan goes down following a brief in play. It is unclear at the moment what is wrong with him but paramedics are on the pitch to try and help.

89min: Law's corner is met by Hanson but his header is held by Parish.
85min: SUB - Accrington bring on Shay McCartan for Clark
84min: A great pass from Law finds Dieng in space inside the box and the French midfielder's shot-come-cross narrowly misses Hiwula in the middle before going a few yards past the far post and out for goal kick.
82min: Matty Pearson takes aim from distance but his rising drive sails comfortably wide.
80min: GOAL - Bradford City 1 Accrington Stanley 2 - The visitors retake thanks to a well-taken goal from Clark. Boco flicks on a through ball into the path of Clark and the Accrington attacker finishes expertly with a low angled drive into the far bottom corner from just inside the box.
75min: McConville runs behind City's defensive line to latch onto a hopeful through pass but Doyle is out quickly to block as the attacker looked to knock the ball past him.
72min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Bradford City 1 Accrington Stanley 1 - Kilgallon heads City level! From Billy Clarke's near post corner, Kilgallon is on hand to swoop in and head into the far corner.
67min: Hiwula plays Billy Clarke into space inside the area before Irishman tries to repay the compliment by squaring the ball across the box. Hiwula looks set to arrive on the pass in a good position to strike for goal but his control isn't clean and the ball bobbles through to Parish.
64min: Boco brings the ball forward on the attack for Accrington before feeding the ball wide to Clark, who fires into the side-netting by Doyle's near post with a rising angled drive.
62min: SUBS - The Bantams bring on Billy Clarke and Nicky Law for Marshall and Morais respectively.
60min: Dieng heads over from Darby's searching ball into the box.
59min: City keep the ball alive inside the area following Marshall's cross but Morais' curling drive from the far side of the box is straight at Parish.

51min: Timothee Dieng plays the ball across the pitch to Hiwula but the striker's shot for goal from roughly twenty yards out is stopped in simple enough fashion by Parish.
47min: Marshall's cross into the box is cleared as far as Kilgallon just outside the box over by the far side but the defender's first time effort on the half-volley sails over.

HT: SUB - The Bantams bring on Jordy Hiwula for Vuckic.

36min: Great chance for Vuckic! The Slovenian attacker plays a one-two with Morais to find himself in a great position inside the box. Vuckic looks set to slot home but his low strike for goal is repelled by the leg of Parish and Accrington can clear their lines.
30min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Accrington Stanley 1 - Boco heads the visitors into the lead. McConville's cross into the box finds Boco in space and the Accrington attacker beats Doyle by his near post with a downward header.
17min: Boco strikes the bar! From some distance out, the Accrington attacker takes aim and his ambitious shot for goal rattles plumb against Doyle's bar!
15min: Another promising opening for City! Vuckic's clever through-ball plays Morais into plenty of space down City's left flank. Morais has Hanson in the middle as an option but the Portuguese attacker elects to play the ball back to fellow winger Marshall, who fires in a strike over the bar from the edge of the area.
12min: Marshall gets away from Jordan Clark before standing the ball up in the middle for Morais, who heads narrowly wide of Parish's far post.
11min: The ball finds Romuald Boco just inside the area and the Accrington attacker shots goal, with Doyle compotently clinging onto the low angled effort first time.
10min: Colin Doyle's big kick forward is flicked on via the boot of Mark Marshall towards Vuckic inside the area. The Slovenian looks to latch onto the ball but Parish is out quickly at his feet to just claim possession.
8min: Daniel Devine and Haris Vuckic help tee the ball up for Filipe Morais from a free-kick outside the Accrington box but Stanley shot-stopper Elliot Parish is able to watch the Portuguese winger's low curling effort go past his near post.
