McCall said: "Looking back at the Chesterfield game again, I felt we played really well and created some great opportunities to score.
"The aim has to be to carry that on week in, week out now.
"We know that we must try to add more goals to our game during spells when we are dominant in a match like we were at Chesterfield.
"But, overall, we have to be delighted with last Saturday’s display – it was a really strong performance from the lads.
"Coming on the back of the Fleetwood win days before when the result was better than the performance, the victory at Chesterfield gave us both the result and the performance we were after.
"For a manager, the most important thing is obviously to get the result but it is always more pleasing when you can get both.
"Shrewsbury come to us on Saturday having drawn their last three league games.
"We’ve been on a similar run ourselves earlier in the season so we know that they will be keen to convert those draws into a win as soon as possible.
"From what we’ve seen of Shrewsbury, they can count themselves unlucky perhaps not to have won a couple of their recent games.
"As we continually say when we’re at home though, we have to concentrate on ourselves as well and on how we can hurt the opposition.
"We will always be wary of our opponents’ strengths but we must focus on what we can do and be ready to go out and play in a really purposeful manner from the off."
City's preparations for Saturday's visit of Shrewsbury to Valley Parade were helped by a 2-1 victory over Bury in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.
McCall added: "We scored two good goals in the game via Haris Vuckic and Jordy Hiwula, and I felt it was a really strong first half performance from the lads which merited the victory.
"We were pleased to keep the momentum going following our recent league victories.
"It was also encouraging to see some of the lads get some much-needed match-time under their belts, in particular Nathan Clarke and Rory McArdle. It was great to see those two back out on the pitch."
